notes
Thanks for checking out our latest release. It was recorded in late 2000 over 2 days. It is pretty much a "live in the studio" affair with a few guitar things added after the fact.
Here is an exerpt from our bio. If you have the chance, stop out to see us live!
The Detonators are comprised of Martin Martin on bass & vocals, Sean Aumack on guitar and "Uncle" Lou Corio on drums. They are a blues band- however they will slip many other influences into the music over the course of a night.
The Detonators were formed in 1995 as "A-Bomb Tom & the Detonators". It was a band designed to play music the member's enjoyed- no stinky top 40 crap. A-Bomb Tom soon left for greener pastures after firing Uncle Lou. This left Sean and Martin stuck with gigs that they couldn't play and a rehearsal studio to maintain (there are still clubs that the band can't work in due to "A-Bomb's" crappy business tactics).
Sean & Martin decided not to quit, so they started a search for more members. To keep things simple, Martin would sing. A major problem of Spinal Tapian proportions soon became apparent: a good drummer is hard to find. Here are a few of the percussion travesties that have been endured over the past few years:
1) Mobster drummer who is one step ahead of the goons who want to whack him for being 2 weeks behind the vig.
2) A fellow who really wanted to play, but "self medicated" on his 3rd gig in front of a packed house. He was fired on the spot, although we are not sure if he knew it or not.
3) At least 5 or 6 guys who auditioned through an ad in the local music rag. Best loser award goes to the guy with the bad rug who had to change into his puke green Chuck Taylors before he stunk up the room with his playing.
4) A fellow that thought he was the best drummer ever (he was OK at best). He was so sure of himself that he financed a CD- too bad it's mixed like a drum solo album. He wound up quitting while we tried to think of a nice way to fire him.
5) Although not technically drummers, we have suffered through several keyboard players who ranged from pretty good to terrible. We have decided to remain a trio (until we find someone who wants to haul a Hammond & Leslie around)
Unable to find a suitable drummer, Sean and Martin somehow convinced Uncle Lou to return. The current line up has played together for over 3 years. The band finally has a CD that represents them. They are a tight band. Listen to their current CD- the music speaks for itself.
Five years after the original idea started, the Detonators are still plugging away and will continue as long as possible. Despite the myriad of problems that can plague a band, they continue to play anyplace that is big enough to fit them. Hire them if you have a chance- these boys can pack 'em in and keep 'em drinking
