"Apple Juice" is my first CD release. It includes fourteen original fingerstyle/fingerpicking tunes and three more arrangements of classic fingerpicking tunes. After my many years of fingerstyle and classical guitar background it was time to get some of it on a CD. Recording was done with the aim of maintaining a natural acoustic guitar sound, and this should especially appeal to fellow acoustic guitarists. The tunes range from bluesy ragtime pieces to those of a more ballad like nature. PLEASE ALSO VISIT MY WEBSITE AND LISTEN TO THE TUNES THERE - the playback quality of the music is better.

Some notes on a few of the songs on "Apple Juice"

Blanchard Song: The song was meant to highlight the sustain and sweet tone of the Blancard Bristlecone guitar.

Hair Ball: a story of a cat (and mouse).

Child's Play: my child's antics and guest appearance

Berg's Lament: a musical tribute to Nicholas Berg

The guitar played on these pieces was either a Mark Blanchard Bristlecone or a Collings C10 Deluxe. The microphones were either Microtech Gefell M300s or Neumann TLM 103s

    Wonderful compositions realized by excellent guitar playing. Creative mix of styles and amazing array of musical ideas. A great souding CD to help you relax and enjoy the moment.

    Like Paul Asbell and Howard Emerson, Rick has created what I would call a great American acoustic guitar album. The country blues, folk blues, jazz, ragtime, and modern fingerstyle idioms are all well represented here. But don't expect traditional purity in arrangements. There are genre twists and turns at every stanza. And even newly created styles (note the "Libba-Rag" version of Freight Train. Purists beware.) In the future, I think players and listeners alike will look back at this time in acoustic guitar history and recognize that the Coombs, Asbells, and Emersons have created a new melting pot genre of American music that transcends today's categories. Highly recommended.

    Wonderfully creative and skillfully executed solo acoustic guitar play - most of the pieces are original compositions, and all are delightful. Perhaps my favorite on the album is the John Fahey-styled "Hair Ball".

    I haven't bought the CD yet, but I sure intend to as I definately want this in my collection. This CD is made up of 17 superbly outstanding, what I would term 'real' acoustic tunes with most styles being catered for. There appears to very little enhancement - sounds like what you hear is exactly what you get from the original source. Clarity on all the tracks are fantastic. I'm sure this CD would make regular appearances whether entertaining guests, driving the car or simply relaxing on the patio. A real must for any acoustic guitar lover.
