Album of the Month - DerDRAKOS, Blood To Blood
"After a long anticipated 2 year wait, DerDrakos is back again with Blood To Blood. Deciding not to hear the samples put up on their official myspace, I decided to wait for the album to arrive, so not to torment me any more than I was already; I'm glad I waited - Blood To Blood excells beyond imagination.
First the technicals: where their last album, Lust For Chaos was harsh, choppy and erradic in sound, Blood To Blood is a smoother production, making a smooth transition track to track. The vocals are stronger and more defined than their previous release; and you can hear the development and growth of them mastering their craft. Their visual concepts remain the same with the amazing and talented Suzi Medusa back at the helm and in charge of the graphics and design layout.
Musically, Blood To Blood is their best work to date. This father and son duo are definate masters at what they do, and they do it damn well. There isn't enough compositions like this out there, with the last in my mind being Atari Teenage Riot, in the way both bands weave a harsh, techno/industrial atmosphere with an otherworldly/ravish/underground atmosphere. Tracks to support this theory are "European Hard Line", "La Vipera", and "Deep In Violence". This time around, Suzi's vocals provide her usual husky erotic blend of growling and screaming, but is more defined and clear.
Favorite tracks off this album are "European Hard Line" with the stand out opening line of "We are Europeans, we don't need to be good. We are devils." "Welcome To Hell" is amazing as well with an enticing tone of voice in the opening line.
By far, this is one of my favorite bands to date, and if you're one of the lucky few to be in their good graces as this ezine is, then you have a better understanding of who they are as a whole. I would love to see a live show if there ever was one."

DerDRAKOS are the result of a real mad electronic music experiment: born on the European hardcore porn film sets, risen on martial techno sounds, developed through original influences from cult cinema and ancient theatre, taken to unexpected levels with lyrics inspired by the writings of Machiavelli, De Sade, Nietzsche, marked with magic spirit, then sealed in a circle of industrial atmospheres.
STEVE J. DRAKOS (photographer, musician, writer, producer, author of cursed books out from late 2009) and his son ALEX DRAKOS (a soundtracks maker and a professional cameraman for many xxx-rated movies and for national television channels), decided to found DerDRAKOS while directing and shooting together scenes with beautiful young girls engaged in explicit hard sex, they actually invented their first songs while telling their models to perform domination lust, flesh idolatry in action, high style carnal obsessions shot in HD quality for the international adult industry (check: www.SteveDrakos.com and SteveDrakos.blogspot.com), in close collaboration with the worldwide famous fetish-hardcore films director Susi Medusa Gottardi (she’s now the special guest singer on DerDRAKOS CDs, with her evocation voice on several songs).
Their debut album, “Lust For Chaos”, received various great critics from Djs, web radios and ezines all over the world and a fanatical response from a first elite of fans. After a long anticipated wait, two years time spent by Alex and Steve recording in their own studio in Prague, Czech Republic, and mixing/mastering at Quadraro Studio in Rome, Italy, DerDRAKOS are back with the new 13-tracks album “Blood To Blood” which is, as they say: “a form of powerful art made through five main points: the composition of electronic music as a consequence of images in our minds, the firm refusal to use rhymes in our lyrics, the Dionysian theatre tradition, the cult for our own bloodline, the classic graphic arts.”
DerDRAKOS can be described as the antithesis of anything that is politically-correct or guilt-ridden. They are cigarette smokers, alcohol and coffee drinkers, meat eaters, leather lovers, fast drivers, firearms and cold steel worshippers, heavy blasphemers, heterosexual males and proud to be Europeans, pure artists that hate everything that smells of ‘goodness’ and never gave a damn about politics, religions, drugs or other social trash: “Burn morals and dance by the fire!” (lyrics from their “Blood To Blood” CD). As music makers, they come from the ‘90s hard-techno that they were hearing together on Italian and German radio programs, in those days when Alex was still a grey-eyed little demon who detested going to school, so after doing his homework they were blasting the speakers and planning their future with a real “Joy Thru Fury” (typical DerDRAKOS track's title, from their “Lust For Chaos” CD).
This original and unusual Clan-project that deals in extreme musical alchemies, infernal poetry and visions, has nothing to do with the mainstream media’s banality nor with any sort of depressing alternative decadence. “Der-Drakos” is a Teutonic-Hellenic matching of words with a precise meaning: The Dragon, a simbol of the fierce strength of life, the inspiring idol for a healthy and free youth with devil-red eyes. The greatest achievement in this life is having the power to create works from your own spirit, blood and mind and to release their full energy in the universe. Steve and Alex have started a vital sound cult from the abyss of their thousands-years-old Western roots and projected it towards the future, they are two dangerous gentlemen who speak words of sorcery on hammering kicks to blast in your cars, clubs, homes, raves, individual and national wars, featuring naked female bodies in leather masks on stage: electric damnation to burn the planet’s dancefloors through a dark, positive, high pleasure.
DerDRAKOS have risen from the Hell of the European Culture.
