I know, I know....a bio is important, and it's here, but what's happening NOW is what's happening!!!! I am so happy and blessed to be able to live my dream. Who'd have thought it?! If I can do it, you can do it. Let me tell you that I'm heard regularly on KMHD FM radio and performing throughout the Pacific Northwest with musicians that I only dreamed about. Here's the bio! Growing up, on the East Coast, immersed in music…..country to Bach, Sandy listened to recordings by Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horn and Blossom Dearie; she was hooked. In her teens, Sandy was crazy for Doris Day and Shirley Bassey, then Cleo Lane and in her twenties was singing with a band of her own. Sandy studied with some of the best teachers in the Delaware Valley, including voice and stage presence under the watchful eye of Bucky Harris, and voice with Lenny Payton, former music coordinator on several New York based television shows. Sandy's appearing at venues throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Expressive and strong jazz vocalist from Portland
author: John Book, Music For AmericaSandy Dennison has been singing in Portland, Oregon for the last few years. Growing up listening to the music of Chris Connor, Helen Merrill, and Doris Day, it was inevitable that she would take that admiration of jazz, pop, and other forms of music into eventually defining her own sound. She had left the music business to raise a family, never considering she would be moved to sing again professionally. This lead her to Oregon, and eventually back into the clubs, and the studio for her debut album in 2003. Four years later, she hits record stores again with the brand new Jazzed! (Sandy Dennison Records). Her debut album honored the legacy of Duke Ellington, but for Jazzed! she gets a chance to expand her repertoire by touching on various jazz standards, everything from "Primrose Color Blue", "On The Street Where You Live", "Like Someone In Love", "I Get The Blues When It Rains", and "Ooh, Whatcha' Doin' To Me", and I definitely hear a bit of Lena Horne, whom she also cites as an influence. Dennison's voice is confident and strong, while her band (Vincent Frates on piano; Mark DiFlorio on drums; Derek Sims on trumpet; David Evans on sax; and Andre St. James on bass) are very powerful and expressive in their own right (all of them have worked extensively in jazz circles over the years), which only helps to make Dennison sound more expressive and strong.
