Petunia:
Amy Denio (Tone Dogs, BTMSQ, etc.) - electric guitar, accordion, voice
David Dorfman - accordion, organ, baritone sax
Jesse Manno - saz, bass, organ, voice
Hahn Rowe (Hugo Largo) - electric viola

NYC choreographer David Dorfman commissioned Seattle composer Amy Denio to write the music for "To Lie Tenderly," a modern dance piece about truth, celebrity, and individuality. Amy formed Petunia (named after her car) for this original rock soundtrack, featuring Hahn Rowe (Hugo Largo), Tobias Ralph (Defunkt), Turkish musician Jesse Manno, and multi-instrumentalist David Dorfman.
Denio's expressive voice and darkly stirring melodies blend beautifully with the sounds of violin and Turkish saz. Ranging from the softest love songs to New Orleans style second-line rhythms, this collection of songs has met critical acclaim in theaters across the US, and is now available on Denio's label Spoot Music.
Dorfman's piece "To Lie Tenderly" premiered at MassMOCA
(N. Adams, Massachusetts) in September, 2000, was performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Next Wave 2000 Series, and has been presented throughout the US.
