Billy Dechand has a unique musical voice, both compositionally and vocally. His music is majestic and gentle, humorous and sad, catchy yet sophisticated, and very often beautiful.
He fuses a keen sense of pop music, with its memorable hooks and strong, compelling singing, with the sensitivity, dynamics, and innovation of chamber music.
His singing ranges from hall-filling bellows to aching whispers, always with a rich tone that has been compared to Elvis Costello's among others. Past and current recordings demonstrate a harmonic and melodic sense that is recognizable as distinctly his, even when performed by other musicians.
This is Billy's strongest material yet -- it includes two songs with lyrics by poet Kate Lovelady. As always, his spectrum is grand, from an acoustic comtemplative harmony heart melter to an end-of-the-world rock-sonic explosion.

author: Gajoob.comBilly Dechand fashions a unique sound that combines performance art, folk, roots rock, and enough dissonant jazz implications to make this release worthy of continuous play. Dechand opts for a spare sound that feels very live and big in the microphones. His bass bangs against Dan Sonenberg's often raucous drum flashes. And then Billy throws something completely different such as "Calling" (written with Kate Lovelady) which is a beautiful duet round in parts, closing out an excellent album.
beatnik jazzpop
author: Jodi Krangle of Muses MuseBilly Dechand has a truly unique style. I'm almost hesitant to try and describe it, but about the closest I can come to doing so is to call it "beatnik jazzpop". His vocals are skillful and almost sparse though a few of the lines in this featured song in particular illustrate his fantastic breath control. In the same vein, he has a tendency to use his voice almost as a percussion instrument - pounding points home with illiteration. The harmonies on this CD are dischordant in places and beautiful in others. It's a wonderful study in contrasts and I invite you to try and find anything comparable.

author: Ben OhmartLet me tell you about Billy's little 27 minute CD. THESE ARE DAMN CATCHY SONGS. 'The Last Time' starts it off. My ear was hooked 'the very last time / like the 2nd last time / like the 3rd last time', words and music. Interesting this should be called a solo album since the vocals are what works Very much for me. Beautiful backing arrangements. Especially on 'Calling' nearly a homemade Queen/ May ballad. Overdubs? Groovy. 'So Many Reasons' however does remind me of Sting's Police years. A rich darkness that will set your sun. Clear vocals and bass twirling like a baton in a nervous girl's hand. Great stifled guitar work that threatens to explode, but holds back, hanging on, at the last moment.... This album seems like a teaser. The band is asking - what do you think of us? Should we pump the money into recording and pitching a full-length CD? I say yes. They produce the flaky, fun kinda songs that don't get to live on Every FM station. That alone is reason enough that they should be allowed to be stars.

author: Matt Kaden...a masterwork. I was dead chuffed all the way through. The vocals sound powerful, definite, confident, and melodious of course. I liked the sound of the vocals on Both Worlds. The steal of the show is the cello arrangements / playing / mic ing / mixing = in short: well done.
