notes
While Deb Talan isn't the only woman taking the stage these days with her acoustic guitar in hand, she is one singer/songwriter that will linger in your memory, thanks to her distinctive voice and evocative, well-crafted songs. Deb's musical influences include Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin, Jonatha Brooke, and Suzanne Vega. Her own music might be classified as intelligent folk-pop.
Part I: classical geek girl
Classically trained in clarinet and piano, Deb began writing music when she was only ten years old. By the time she graduated from high school, she had written numerous pop songs and composed a score for a local production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Her senior year in college, Deb picked up a guitar and has been toting it around ever since.
Part II: the band years
Deb's next significant musical endeavor consisted of writing for and fronting an upbeat, pop band in Portland, Oregon. The band, "Hummingfish," played in the Northwest for five years to ever-increasing audiences. They put out two albums, "Hover" and "Love Tractor." During this time, Deb-while still enjoying her key role in Hummingfish-began preparing for a solo career and even put out her debut solo recording, "Songs for a Misfit Heart."
Part III: steppin' out
Having established herself in the Northwest as a musical force, separate from her band, Deb decided, in February of 1999, to head for the musical hotbed of Boston, Massachusetts. For a year, Deb laid low, while finishing her second solo recording, "Something Burning." With that in her back pocket, she headed out to several of the local clubs, including Toad, Johnny D's, Kendall Café, Club Passim and Somerville Theatre; her fan base in the Northeast is increasing rapidly, with copies of "Something Burning" flying off store racks and merchandise tables.
Now a three-time Boston Music Award nominee, Deb is an established presence on the Boston scene and tours nationally. Her music has appeared in feature films (2002's "Love and Amazing") and TV ("Dawson's Creek," "Felicity"). She can also be found on the SIBL and Respond CD compliations, alongside such artists as Suzanne Vega, Sarah McLaughlin and Bruce Springsteen.

Totally Addictive!
author: Pete StokkeI love The Weepies...so, I thought I'd go back in time and try this CD too. Oh my gosh, I can't stop listening. What a completely unique voice and style! Love it...can't live without it.
hooray!
author: ariannaInitially, I purchased this cd with the hopes of attaining Deb's song "The Gladdest Thing." Unfortunately, the song wasn't on this album. Fortunately, this album is wonderfull any way, &it only makes me want to invest in her other work.
love~
author: ryanas a long time weepies fan, i absolutely had to check out deb talan's solo stuff out. all her cd's were sold out everywhere and it didn't look like it was to be reissued anymore but once i got an email, i clicked onto CDbaby and bought her cd's immediately. absolutely wonderful! i love her voice, the lyrics, the melodies and more! admittedly, the cd's are a bit mellow and slow but i really enjoy it. perfect for a rainy day, but just as great everyday. definitely something to check out for everyone!
A true triumph!
author: Bridget TrapaneThis is the second Deb Talan cd I have purchased through cdbaby and I enjoyed it evan more than the first, my husband is now a fan.I am happy to see that The Weepies are getting some much deservsd recognition, but I do hope that she continues to do solo work because nothing compares to her voice on it's own.Her voice creeps inside you and stirs up feelings you didn't know that you had, once again, thank you Deb Talan and thank you cdbaby.

I absolutely love this CD! It made me laugh and it made me cry. I have always been a big Joni Mitchel fan and Deb Talan's lyrics and some of her singing remind me of her. Clearly comes from the heart. Also refreshing to listen to an album where all the songs do not sound the same.
An unearthly beautiful voice!
author: MarigoldDeb Talan's voice takes you to places in your heart and soul that you're usually way too afraid to go to. But she does it with such sensitivty and honesty that you come back to reality feeling somewhat healed. She is amazing! Love her with Steve Tannan in The Weepies but I hope she will continue her solo works as well.
killer stuff
author: Mhat BernsteinThis album--as well as the "Say I Am You" album by Deb Talan's band, "The Weepies"--is awesome. Her voice and melodies are a little repetitive at times, but I'd rather have repetitive fantasticness than non-repetitive lameness.
A Beautiful Voice Singing The Truth From The Heart
author: JakeGreat writing, Great Music, and a Beautiful Voice. These songs connect the heart and the brain with love and compassion. It's not Black and It's not White, but Deb helps us understand. Deb, love the person you are.
catchy
author: c.c. phillipsdeb talan's songs have a really nice structure to them and she has a distinctive voice i like. this is a really cool album.
music for a grey day
author: Cyn, AlaskaThere is something in Deb's lyrics and voice that reach in and grab you by those secret places in your soul. Wistful and urgent, playful and melancholy all at the same time. I bought this for myself after hearing and purchasing "Happiness", thinking it was "girl" music. . . until my husband stole the CD away!
love it
author: Amy Patwai first heard deb talan on an NPR story and i'm so glad i was listening that day. my husband and i love her music...her pure voice. it's amazing
Wonderful
author: AaronThis album is a little bit more produced than Something Burning, but there are more than enough memorable songs on it, including the title track and one of my favorite songs Rocks and Water.
A Bird Flies Out
author: Larry DeVineFound this cd at cd warehouse and loved it from the first song to the last.A wonderful singer songwriter.I checked her out on cd baby and purchaced "Something burning" also a wonderful cd. I love to listen to her stories on those long drives.Thank you Cd Baby for some of the best music you can't buy in those big music stores.
Soulfull and Serene.
author: Stuart ImmelmanDeep, thoughtfull and sincere-if you can't swim this is not the album for you!!! Stong lamenting lyrics frinted by one of the most outstanding and unique female voices I have heard in a long time-backed by a barrage of beautifull mellow rock-this is an album to lose yourself in.
Love it!
author: LaurieWhat a great CD...Deb Talan has a beautifully enjoyable voice and incredible lyrics. Came across The Weepies about a year ago and since then have been so excited to hear her solo album -love it!!
Fantastic!
author: Erik GibsonI love this CD. Deb Talan has such a unique voice and an amazing gift for writing music. I'm so glad I chanced across her music. I have not been disappointed with anything I've heard from her yet. If you like thoughtful lyrics, soft sung melodies, and full acoustic guitar, you'll like this album.
Wonderful album by a special artist
author: Ray RichardsonGot turned on to Deb by Pandora and couldn't be happier with this cd. It's got a similar feel to Shawn Colvin's first couple releases, which I also love. There's not a weak cut on this entire record, only strong and stronger ones. It has one of the hallmarks of some my other favorite records; if I've heard it recently, I never know which song I'll end up singing to myself later that day. I also find it touching that she'd recently hooked up with her Weepies partner Steve Tannen when she made this record. She's got a couple of great I-wish-I-were-in-love songs on this CD, and it makes me smile to think that she was getting her wish even while she was recording it :)
Deb Talan is amazing!!
author: Richie RichAfter falling in love with the music of the Weepies, I decided to try the solo material. Deb is a first rate singer and song writer. The collection of songs here are wonderful. She has strong flavors of Dar Williams with a light pop influence. I have played this CD repeatedly and am going to order more. Deb Talan has me hooked.
A talent that sooo shines it hurts ones eyes
author: R. J. Thomas - Lethbridge Alberta - CanadaI would not have ever found out about this CD if it were not for NET music. A rare folk star in the making. I hope others take the chance I buy this CD - It will become a favorite. Thanks Deb
Can't stop listening! I love it!
author: Daisy PhillipsI don't why, but this cd just gets into your bones. It's like I just start craving a certain song randomly during the day and I can't rest until I hear it. The lyrics really strike home and the vocal talent of Deb Talan makes the songs irresistable. It's catchy and poppy in all the right ways.
- author: Ant Salvador
What a great CD from a special talent. Strikes at the very core. To listen to over and over...
Exceptional talent!
author: J.ShafferI saw Deb Talan and Steve Tannen (as The Weepies) perform at the Kent Stage in Ohio two years ago, and was blown away by their exceptional talents. On her 3rd(?) solo album (A Bird Flies Out), Deb Talan displays her fine folkie voice and superior songwriting abilities. She has the gift of the ellusive metaphor, able to craft lyrics that speak to the soul. She is like a nouveau Joni Mitchell, yet is entirely unique. I try to play her cds for anyone who'll listen, and wonder why a performer as talented as she is not at the top of the heap. With so much mediocrity in the music world, we need her voice.
Very good album. Great voice.
author: M FenwickVery good album and exactly as advertised. I would recommend this album to anyone.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
author: MollyI bought this CD because of one song; Comfort. Got the CD & was thrilled to be as taken with each & every song. Wonderful vocals, lyrics, etc. The entire CD is amazing; I was & continue to be spell bound. Winters are hard for me; this is helping me to get through it. Ended up buying six CDs & passed five on. If you haven't heard this CD you are depriving yourself of an experience!
wonderful!
author: KindraI also heard it on Everwood and was completely taken with Deb Talan's voice...she has such a unique sound...great!
Deb Talan is my new favorite artist!!!
author: SarahDeb's voice is so haunting and crystal clear. I listen to this CD over and over and over!! Although this CD may not be in the mainstream, it is a fabulous nugget to have found. Anything with Deb Talan's touch on it is worth a listen and another listen and another.
Great CD, I was lucky that I got it finally.
author: KaisaI heard Deb Talan first time on Everwood. I couldn't forget the song I had heard so I listened Deb Talan's songs on her website and now finally got her CD "A bird flies out" to my home in Finland. The whole album is wonderful. I like Deb Talan's voice and the way, how she says things in lyrics. Best part of the lyrics is the refrain of "Saturn's light". My other favourite songs are "Unraveling", "Comfort" and "To the bone". Acoustic guitars are also nice. Truly great album!
Love her voice, this is my second CD of hers. Wish more were available.
author: Donna McCulloughThe first two songs are my favorites. Tell your story walking is a great, but the whole CD really gets to you. Deb Talan is a wonderful writer and you can't beat her voice.
Great album - unique & insightful.
author: Andy HolmanThis was a great album. One great thing about it is that it doesn't sound exactly like any other artist - there's a unique sound here, and the lyrics are just deep enough to make me want to listen again, but not so deep that I can never make heads or tails of it. Great stuff!
Fantastic CD. Among the very best in modern folk.
author: BjornBought this one on the basis of rave reviews only. And, boy, did I strike gold! Great voice, great melodic sense, great sound, great variety. As good as the best of Shawn Colvin, Cheryl Wheeler or Lucy Kaplansky. A touch of Natalie Merchant in there, too. In other words, a rare talent, indeed. Addictive stuff. Wow.
Absolutely lovely. It gets better every time I listen to it.
author: PatThis is lovely music. I find myself reaching for it and the Weepies CDs every day.
Yes, she is wonderful. It's true.
author: TheBrooklynMouthI love cdbaby & this album...two great tastes that taste great together, Due to a outdated computer, I couldn't preview any of the songs before I bought it but, once again, I was not disappointed. The album arrived with lightening speed and it is wonderful. Deb Talan's songs are so smart and crisp my only complaint is that I haven't yet heard her live in concert. I wish she would come and play in NY soon. Deb, where are you?
Love her sound
author: StephI as well, heard this on Pandora, and first heard the song A Bird Flies Out. I was instantly taken by the lyrics, the music and her unique voice. Love it all.
Thumbs Up!
author: PaulaLearned of Deb Talan through Pandora- loved the cd- had to buy it.
Songwriting seems as natural as light from this extraordinary voice
author: Jeff GreenleeJust drove home, which takes about the time for one whole run of this CD. Its hard to pinpoint what it is about this experience that makes me push play and re-play over and over again. It's how she sounds as if she was born to do this.. as if the words came out naturally this way the first time she ever sang it. I am sruck by her clarity. This is not a voice searching - it feels confident and haunting and makes me care deeply about the soul that it springs from.
I've been listening to this CD non-stop
author: Gary B.Deb Talan is one half of the Weepies, a band I discovered earlier this year. Deb's solo albums are as good if not better. I've been listen to "Unraveling" (as well as many other tracks on the disc) non-stop.
beautiful...
author: BrennaI am so glad that I decided to buy this cd! Deb's voice is amazing. Also, the lyrics to her songs are always poignant and moving. I would recommend this to anyone.
quite enjoyable
author: AndrewQuite a good CD. Heard "Comfort" on Everwood and had to check out the rest of the artist's songs. Very happy to have bought the CD. Keep up the great work.
Always in my Cd Player
author: CarolineI ordered this cd after just previewing the songs... and am so THRILLED with it! I listen to EVERY song. I bought a copy for my mother as well who is equally addicted. Her voice is beautiful and she sounds like nobody I have heard.
Infectious!
author: SandyThis captivating CD will keep you humming all day long. You'll be haunted by "Rocks and Water" and won't want to listen to another CD for weeks!
Hasn't left my car stereo since it arrived!
author: AprilThe lyrics of this CD are unbelievable. Every song is beautiful poetry. It's rare you get a CD and you love every single song...this is that CD.
"Saturn's Light" is the most infectious song I've ever heard.
author: Wyatt EspalinI wish I could see you live, Deb Talan. Please come to Nashville soon! Your voice moves me to tears. Your songs leave pictures in my head that I can't shake out. You have an amazing gift and I thank you for sharing it with us all. By the way, The Weepies Happiness is perfection.
This is an incredible CD! The lyrics are lovely and she has an amazing voice.
author: Jayme PohlThis is an amazing CD. I first heard Deb Talan a few years ago when a friend played me the song Forgiven. She just gets better and better with time. Every track on this CD is honest and tugs at my heartstrings. Don't hesitate, this is a truly great album.
Great :D
author: AniaI first heard Deb Talan in Dawson's Creek and I loved it so much that I bought this CD. And I don't regret. There is a lot of beautiful songs and "Comfort" is absolutely breath taking. It's really great.
Soulful and evocative
author: Liz ScheierA remarkable album, both heart-wrenching and uplifting... Ashes On Your Eyes and Two Points make me cry every time!
Wonderful
author: GailA Bird Flies Out is amazing. The sounds and lyrics have this uncanny way of picking me up on bad days. It's real without trying to be. I can't get myself to take it out of the CD player.
Yay!!!
author: AnnaThis CD is amazing, just like deb's other albums... i don't know how i did without it for so long!! it's stayed in my car's cd player for a solid week now!
As close to perfect as one could ever get
author: ChloeI have seen Deb live. She is wonderful. She makes brilliance look easy. Her lyrics and voice come through beautifully in this cd. Its enough to make you cry and smile at the same time, as well as sing along loudly when driving in your car. Thank you Deb, it really is an amazing piece of art that you created and were good enough to share with the rest of us. Love, Chloe
really impressed, it's a great CD, you are a great poet
author: DawnLike a coffeehouse in your home...
author: DianaThis is a beautiful CD, with creative and meaningful lyrics. It does have sort of a "typical coffeehouse" sound, but Deb's talent and way-above-average voice bring it up to an exceptional level. Reading the lyrics brought me the full value of the music. ...Loved CB Baby's customer service, too - I so appreciate the personalized treatment! Thank you.
Great album - wonderful, lyrical songs throughout
author: Tom SteinmetzI'm now convinced Deb Talan is the great undiscovered talent in American music right now. Two brilliant cds, beautiful poetic lyrics, a great warm live show (in Minneapolis). This cd has been in our player constantly since it arrived.
Excellent
author: Amy P.Love this cd...it's great working and travelling music. Thank you for supporting such wonderful musicians!
WHY IN THE HELL ISN'T THIS WOMAN ON A MAJOR LABEL?
author: Marc DysonI can only guess it's by choice Deb isn't signed with a bigger label. I know she's not Alanis big but she's made two solid brilliant albums that deserve to be heard by everyone. One song closed the indie hit "Lovely and Amazing." Plus she's got the looks to give the dreaded Jewel a run for her money and ten times the talent. So, what gives? Is this a control thing?
Why Isn't Deb Talan A Mega-Popstar?!?
author: Miles ShumanThis is a wonderful album full of infectious tunes. 'Rocks and Water' is an amazing, spine tingling track, which iTunes conveniently tells me I've listened to 23 times already, in the week I've owned the album. 'Unravelling' is just as catchy, and is a great example of Deb's fantastically intelligent lyric-writing; it takes talent to write a beautiful song about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
great CD - and great CD baby!
author: LindsayI love the CD but i wanted to comment on CD baby customer service too. Getting a Deb Talan CD is great on it's own - but getting a personal love note in with the mail...I love it! ..could snail mail be making a comeback?
sublime sweetness
author: alisonWonderful lyrics, beautiful melodies, and just all-round goodness. This is one of those folksy gems you can listen to over and over without tiring of it. Play track #3 ("How Will He Find Me") for all your single girlfriends, and see if it doesn't charm their socks off!
awesome!
author: brianamazing, wonderful, sexy, sultry, genius. i could go on forever but i need to catch up on all the work i've missed while listening to this cd over and over again. keep up the good work, deb!
Captivating!
author: ChelseaFirst heard Deb's captivating voice as the credits rolled for Lovely and Amazing, prompting me to go see her perform live. I was an addict. 'A Bird Flies Out' DELIVERS the soulful messages that feel so good to absorb. Two Points, Big Strong Girl and Rocks and Water are becoming my favorites...I simply can't take this cd out of rotation. Can't wait to see you (and Steve Tannen) back in NYC this October!
In a word...PERFECT!!
author: Rachel PikeThis CD is folk perfection...I first saw Deb in Atlanta opening for Catie Curtis and I was hooked! My favorite song is Tell Your Story Walking, because it's very gutsy and has an awesome groove. Every track rocks my socks. :)
CD is simply wonderful
author: LillieThis CD is wonderful and is the kind of music you can listen to and return to over a long period.
A wonderful singer and songwriter
author: Robyn ScottI first discovered Deb Talan on an online radiostation and I found myself completely captivated by her lyrics and hastily trying to scribble them down on a napkin before the song ended. This is the first cd I have purchased by her and I was not disappointed. The lyrics are provoking, the melodies are uplifting and it has been living in my cd player ever since. Her music has been a great comfort to me during these first few weeks of my new "desk job" - thanks Deb for making this job way more entertaining than it has any right to be!
ear candy
author: melissathis album contains soulful messages about the power of love and the beauty of life. the lyrics and melodies are more comforting than words can describe. Thank you, Deb, for creating such delightful music!
Lovely. So glad to have found out about this superb young talent.
author: Karen NewtonDeb Talan has deep emotion in her voice and her words. She's one of the best "unknowns" I know of. She'll make it big. Just know it.
Excellent from beginning to end
author: Billy MabrayAfter hearing Deb on the "Respond II" CD, I wanted to hear more from her. This CD did not disappoint. My wife and I enjoy it very much.
- author: Gloria F.
When I first heard Ashes on your Eyes; was blown away;song helped me thru a hard time and kept me upbeat. So had to hear more of her stuff; love Bird CD, especially Unravelling and Tell your Story; her voice is so fresh and full of soul! GF
summer shower
author: vaninaMy favourites are Tell your story and Comfort which everytime takes me back to my crazy childhood...like a summer shower over the muddy world of music....
Another beautiful Deb CD
author: David DonovanI discovered Deb Talan either by fate or by accident..... I was in Boston (where I went to undergrad) in Harvard Square with my friend and we were listening to musicians in the subway. We really liked this girl with a guitar, and my friend bought the CD. I asked her about it later, but she lost the CD in a move and couldn't remember the artist. All I remembered was some song about a horse.... then I started searching. I discovered "Something Burning" through some boston music website, which has the song "Wild Horse". Whether or not this is the song I heard in the subway, I'll never know, but I instantly became a Deb fanantic. To make a short story long, this CD, a bird flies out, like all of Deb's stuff is FANTASTIC. Several of the songs are studio versions of tracks from Sincerely.... I think I like the acoustic version of Two Points slightly better, but the studio versions of those songs are incredible. If you're interested in an album where EVERY SONG is good, one that you can put on and walk away from the stereo, then this is one such album. Buy it already! What are you waiting for? :)
This lady can sing like a bird!
author: JennyDeb Talan is a very talented lady. Her voice and lyrics will make you think way after the cd has stopped. I can't wait to hear more!
- author: amc
I listened to the cd and filed it under "listen to again soon." It plays all the time in the background at work. Soft and familiar; thoughtful, meaningful lyrics; with vocals that dip and rise, taking you with them on each listen. Better-than-average girl-with-guitar music.
deep moving soul.
author: Jay Jaschwow, call me a weepie but the music on this album is sooooo deep and the singing so pure - the lyrics evoked with such true feeling and soul it reached right down inside, stirred me up and wet my eyes on the way back out. i don't think of folk or folk-rock or pop or any known genres, i think simply of real artistry. an artist thankfully sharing her beauty and life with the world in her own incredible way. forget about the big diva sun goddesses aka colvin, vega, etc. i predict a major eclipse is about to happen. listen here and see what i mean.
Thank you Deb!!!
author: JennaA Bird Flies out has some amazing songs, I could not pick a favorite if I tried. Debs soulful voice combines with her heartfelt lyrics and it is a truely spectacular combination.
still in my CD player after four months!
author: Anne-MarieThis is the best CD I've heard in years. Every song is great. My personal faves are "Sincerely," "Big Strong Girl," and "How Will He Find Me." Deb Talan gets the vocals just right: soulful, thoughtful, lively, and lush. A masterful album.
Great new songs, but new versions of older songs only ok
author: AngieThis is a great album to follow the two previous great albums from an artist who masters the use of fabulous story telling with unique and enchanting voice inflection. New songs like Rocks and Water, Saturn's Light are nice new tunes, but her studio versions of Two Points, Tell Your Story, and How Will He Find Me are a disappointment compared to their live versions on her previous album, Sincerely. Of course, my opinion only... enjoy!
A highly talented musician, she makes beautiful music you'll love...
author: Holly IrelandDeb Talan is one of the most talented artists I have had the pleasure to discover. She has the voice of an angel and pours her emotions out in every song. The very first time I saw her perform I fell in love with her music and bought both CD's she had out at the time right then. Of course as soon as I heard "A Bird Flies Out" was available to purchase I had to buy it as soon as possible. Just listening to her sing puts a smile on my face or tears in my eyes. You can relate to every song because she sings of her life and experiences. I highly recommend you buy this CD as well as her others, "Sincerely" "Something Burning" and, available next week, "Happiness".
love it love it love it. it takes me to a very nice place
author: mekellaI cannot stop listening to "A Bird Flies Out"
author: Patti WittenI cannot stop listening to this CD. Deb is a near perfect writer with a voice that I am quickly becoming adicted to: part Natalie merchant, part Jonatha Brooke and wholly wonderful.
my CD BABY top ten....
author: jenthis is one of my all time favorite cd's i have found through cd baby... thank you deb! fabulous!
Engaging lyrics and catchy songs.
author: Craig GoldieThis album keeps growing on me the more I listen to it. I really enjoy the lyrics and the upbeat tone of the songs. I'm a fan of almost all the songs (that's rare for me!) but some of my favourites include "Big Strong Girl", "Two Points" (I really really like that one, very meaningful to me), and "Ashes on Your Eyes".
Deb for President!
author: Jennifer CromwellA Bird Flies Out: full of Deb's ever-poetic wording that hits you in the heart and head at the same time if you listen closely; great beats and tunes even if you're just using it as background music. A good balance of slow/quieter and faster/danceable.
- author: Dawn Loomis
Deb I have been dazzled by you since I first heard you perform in Corvallis years ago. I am so happy you put up to date versions of some of these songs from your tape on to CD! Your music is thoughtful and great road trip sing along music. You send chills down my spine.
richer versions of old songs with great new ones
author: jonithis is a great CD with studio versions of some old favorites along with some beautiful new songs, including my favorite: unravelling.
just wonderful
author: Paul RickterA great voice who was new to me --- now I'm going to check out her other stuff! My favorites are Tell Your Story Walking and the title track, but the whole CD is strong from start to finish.
more love
author: Natalie MulfordWell, Deb continues to be just fabulous. The songs that have been redone from 'Sincerely' might disappoint those who are attached to her simply voice + guitar versions, but "Rocks and Water" makes any discomfort here worth it.
Stellar, I'm completely speechless.
author: AllysonThis disc is amazing! Deb is truly a song poet.
Gorgeous
author: CassieThis one is simply worthwhile. It's just beautiful. I've listened to it many times over and it continues to grow on me, and my "favorite" song keeps changing (it's Rocks and Water today). I am still very attached to Ms. Talan's first CD, but this may be her best work to date. Catchy and moving -- a rare bird.
Finest "remakes" of the finest plus some other fantastic stuff!
author: Sarah ColenI can't take this out of my CD player. The new versions of the old songs are great...a little production hasn't taken away from anything but just given it a new and/or interesting angle. Everything new has been played and replayed a hundred times already!! The best: Unraveling!
one of the best independent releases i have ever heard
author: amythis cd is truly exceptional. she has absolutely outdone herself-- there is not one track that is worth skipping past. "unraveling", "saturn's light", and "big strong girl" are my favorites, but that could just be because they are the ones that most relate to my current life situation. all in all i would give this endeavor of ms. talan's as many stars/thumbs-ups/kudos as there are. this record is by far my favorite of her three so far. i hope she keeps recording forever. :) thank you.
Deb Talan - If you don't know her, aquaint yourself.
author: ErinDeb Talan's music is a gift, and her voice a charming messenger. She will integrate herself into your daily life with ease, and you'll love every second of it. This CD is a good addition to your collection because it includes wonderful songs that haven't been heard before like "A Bird Flies Out" "Rocks and Water" "Comfort" and "Saturn's Light" -- but you absolutely MUST get her acoustic CD "Sincerely" to really understand what this lady is about. That CD shares some songs with this one, but she's produced them here and they lose a little of the punch that they have when they're all stripped down. This, I think, is a compliment to Deb who is simply most powerful when left to her own devices. This is a great CD - buy it. Buy all of her CD's. She will probably change your life.
..…this music reaches out to a lot of people.
author: Kevin LeonardFirst thing that hit me was the production - I'm so used to hearing just her voice and guitar that it wasn't until the second listen that I realized (whew) this was going to be as appealing and wonderful as her first two CD's. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th listens got better and better. Deb's voice and songs are so striking; they just reach out and grab me. I played her stuff in a club where I work as a sound engineer for bands. I haven't had that many people come up and ask "who IS this?" in a long, long time. So it's not just me…this music reaches out to a lot of people.
Exquisite, as always
author: naomiThis cd is absolutely amazing. Like the other reviewer said, it is a little strange to hear the full productions after being so accustomed to the live album. however, thankfully, the extras only add to the songs and serve to make them even more moving. Favourites on this one are Big Strong Girl, How Will He Find Me and Saturn's Light. Congratulations on another stunning achievement, Deb!
An amazing songful creation!
author: MelissaThis is Deb's best work to date and it is clear that Ms.Talan continues to develop her voice and her sound. This CD can take you on a trip into your own head and heart. and for that I thank her.
Another great CD from Deb Talan
author: Don SemmensDeb Talan CDs are addictive. I find myself playing them over and over, repeating some of my favorite songs over and over. A Bird Flies Out is no exception. Hearing a few of the songs with full production is a bit jarring at first, having heard the solo version on a previous release. But, the production never overshadows the beautiful songs and incredible voice. Favorite songs include How Will He Find Me, Tell Your Story Walking and Big Strong Girl.
