JANUARY NEWS "EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT...................

HERE'S HOW TO START A NEW YEAR ! Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, for all your support. I completely "SOLD OUT", BOTH SETS @ the Blue Note , New Years Day, January 1st, 2007, at my annual jazz benefit for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society raising a whopping $10, 275. My goal was $10K! In the words of Barry Manalow " Looks Like We Made It". I also added another $100 from CD's and Post Card Sales. The crowd was hyped so I even honered James Brown with my rendition of SEX MACHINE for the encore! It was a night to remember! Check back for Light The Night Walk info later this Spring.

I've lost count of the grand total to date but here's an idea of how good things are. We closed 2006 raising $9020 for the Concert and the Leukemia Society's Light the Night Walk, which was held in October. $9K for the 9th Year, $10K for the 10th Year. I think there's a pattern here!

If you missed the concert and the walk but still want to help!
I'm Still accepting donations at my Light The Night Home Page until January 31st!

Why do I walk? I walk in memory of my father Douglas E. Davis, Sr. who lost his battle with Leukemia 26 years ago at the early age of 57. I walk in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers.

Every five minutes, someone in this country is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every nine minutes, someone dies.

Leukemia is the leading cause of disease-related death among children under age 15.

Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers.
The myeloma survival rate is only 30 percent.

Please consider helping in any way that you can. By doing so, we’ll both be helping save lives. I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

PRESS:

"that heart feeling, that rhythm wave, courses throughout Deborah Davis' singing...from ballads to the up tempo swingers. Because that jazz time impels her improvising, she keeps surprising herself, as well as her listeners". - - Nat Hentoff

"Miss Davis has a strong voice that can be richly colored, particularly in the lower register." - -John S. Wilson, New York Times

"This self assured singer shows solid chops in all ranges, has a sparkling well articulated attack and a natural flowing charm." - - Stuart Troup, N.Y. Newsday

"Deborah Davis seduces her audiences". - - Maria Guell, Barcelona, Spain

Due to the wonderful songs & Ms. Davis' superb voice, I've listened to this CD over & over again. I've even played it for friends & urged them to buy it. The music is so upbeat; you can't be sad listening to it!!! And listening to Row Your Boat makes you smile-thinking of days gone by. You won't regret buying this CD!

  • Deborah's CD is a great way to get into Jazz!
    author: Tracy

This CD is really wonderful. Ms Davis has an excellent debut. It's the perfect CD to get someone interested in jazz. Once I listened to it, it became one of the CD's I listen to often.

  • Jazz soaked in the Blues
    author: Mac Daddy

Another American secret (i must do something about that) Deborah Davis is another great singer in the tradition of Carmen McCrae and Betty Carter yep she's that good. This album is a definite must have and play and play and play as you won't tire of it. My favourite track is Quiet Nights which she puts her vocal stamp on and makes it her own. I don't know what it is but on some songs she sounds like she's been singing jazz for about 30 years or more (check out the track Easy Living) as she sounds so mature and so bluesy you can smell the cigarette smoke. In fact there's real bluesy late night feel to many of the songs on this album. A great voice that doesn't fail to delight the ear any earlier pessimism about the death of true jazz singing has been sadly overstated, it's alive and well and Deborah Davis along with a small handful of other jazz singers on CD baby are testament to that. If I compare this album to many of the jazzlite-weights who are being heavily promoted on major labels, then Ms Davis's album blows them all away and to use my regular phrase she's the real deal jazz heavyweight not jazzlite. Also I applaud and respect her for taking control and setting up her own label for her album releases. Final word buy this album

  • Oh my God ! BUY THIS CD!
author: danno23 (from New York, NY)

WOW. I had the lucky opportunity to get this CD and it totally blew me away. Great, great jazz, and this lady might very well have one of the best, sultriest and [exciting] voices I have ever heard. I'm amazed she isn't famous -- she should be.

  • author: Chris Glover

Deborah Davis is a true original with a sound that is soulful, swinging and versatile. Deborah’s voice translates each song into a very personal statement. She also displays an incredible style, wit, and charm. The CD features familiar standards that are full of creativity and splendidly performed by Deborah. To demonstrate a mixture of talent, charm, and penchant for fun, Deborah includes an oldie by Fats Domino (“I’m Walkin’”) and a tune from our days in grade school entitled, “Row Your Boat”. Deborah is accompanied by an outstanding trio. The trio featuring Ron Affif (guitar), Ben Wolfe (bass), and Greg Hutchinson (drums) provides the perfect synergy that completes this fine recording.

  • Great collaboration of Guitar & Vocal
    author: Gregory P. Vazquez

Great CD. Excellent collobation with guitarist Ron Affif. Ocassionally a little too much vibrato by Deborah Davis but does not detract much from the overall quality of the CD. She is a snger that swings with emotion. I eagerly await her next collaboration with Ron Affif.
