BIO: I began my life in the southern US state of North Carolina where I grew up listening to old and new blues artists alike as well as old time country music, folk and traditional Gospel. After University in the Appalachian Mountains, I left music behind and gypsied around the world for nearly 15 years. I landed in Australia and was amazed to find the music I loved right here in Melbourne. I found a job running the front house at "Muddy Waters Cafe". Here I met some of Australia's top Blues and Roots artist who inspired me to pick up my guitar again. By then I had fallen in love with the sound of slide guitar and that became my passion.
I had so many amazing players showing me licks on many a late night lock-in at Muddy's . And as I was learning I would often be asked up to play with the big boys when they were performing their gigs. I joined Dirty Rivers Band and played electric slide guitar with them for 5 years. It was here I started singing and arranging my favorite songs into my own style of playing. I also founded South Of The River Gospel Choir with Annemarie Sharry and Val Ashton which features Black African and Gospel music. My musical path was getting stronger and stronger as I started playing solo as well as some duo gigs with Brent Ottley. But as fate would have it, just as I was starting to take music on full time I was give the news that I had breast cancer.
My world turned upside down and the fight for my life took precedence over everything. But even then I refused to stop singing and kept up with the choir and music every moment I could! I truly believe that this positive force got me through all the treatments and contributed to my win against cancer! This CD is my celebration of survival. And the beginning of the next stage of my life! Everyone playing on this CD with me has been a major influence in my life both musically and in friendship. It is my greatest dream realized making this CD with these very talented friends!
