notes
This is the Michael Deans Quintet's first CD together, although all the musicians have played on CDs with other artists. It came out in July 2004 and was described as "a lovely album" on BBC RADIO.
The CD features Michael Deans on tenor saxophone, Steven Hawkes on flugelhorn and trumpet, Stuart Gorman on guitar, John Speirs on bass guitar and Paul Mills on drums.
The players are well known throughout Scotland and have played at jazz festivals across the UK and abroad. The band is recognised as one of the best in the country and has a strong local following.
Ciderology represents a cross-section of the music played by the band and the title track is an original number. In addition to the styles heard on the CD, the band also plays blue note style post bop, smooth jazz and soul.

An absolute joy, tight and immensely listenable to.
author: Fiona AldermanI was given this CD on my last visit to Glasgow, at Cottier's when the band was playing. Having listened to them and known some of the musicians for many years I was delighted to hear the great music and collective sound. Individually they are great and the tracks are suberbly played .. my favourite is My Funny Valentine which was dedicated to me that day !! I listen to this CD in France a lot.
