notes
"Go, so you can say you saw him when" urged Miami Herald critic Evellyn McDonnell. "Dean Fields has the voice of two angels." Fields had only just begun to pen the songs that would make up his debut release Imitations when McDonnell first saw him perform at a Florida songwriter showcase in Feb 2002. "The audience hung on his carefully rendered notes, agreeing with the words, relishing the discovery of a new talent." Florida soon heeded her advice and flocked to be the push behind his promising career.
In less than a year, Dean Fields went from relative obscurity to garnering rave reviews, performing at the premiere Billboard Live, and being voted "Best of Miami." Fields interrupted graduate school at the University of Miami and moved to Boston to focus on writing and performing his music. He is currently promoting his debut release Imitations. The album, released in October 2002, was engineered and co-produced by Sparklehorse's Alan Weatherhead (Clem Snide, Denali) at Sound of Music Studios owned by David Lowery of the band Cracker.
Dean Fields has developed a fanbase everywhere he has called home from VA to TN to FL to MA. He has shared the stage with noteworthy acts including Grammy award winner Bruce Hornsby and Boston's "folk goddess" Catie Curtis. The popularity of the male singer-songwriter is on the rise with artists like John Mayer, Ryan Adams, and David Gray. Dean Fields is poised to make his mark in this resurgence. Go, so you can say you saw him when.

Awsome!
author: BrianDean was a great musician in high school and his talent has done nothing but grow since then. Both cds are amazing with a mix of slow relaxing tunes to upbeat songs. Great all-around collection.

Dean is a friend of a friend and I was finally exposed to his music. This CD is beautiful--both lyrically and musically. I highly recommend it to everyone!
Cannot take this CD out of my stereo!
author: JuliaThis is truly the best CD that I have bought this year. I love the rich guitar and Dean's amazing vocals. The instrumentals in a few of the songs feel so cozy, like something from the "Harold and Maude" soundtrack. A great collection of music for happy and sad times. I can't wait for Dean's next CD.
intelligent artist
author: pattidean is such an intelligent artist and puts a ton of feeling into his songs. i have found meaning in his songs that pertain to my life and love to read his songs as poems.

author: BarbaraJust listening to the music, you can relax and enjoy the down-to-earth vibe it gives off. But if you really pay attention to the words and think about the meaning in them, you can see that Dean Fields has incorporated first-class poetry into his songs! Each song shows off so much talent!

IMITATIONS BRINGS OUT THE BEAUTY IN PAIN
author: Kimberly T. BartonImitations has such a soft and sweet sound that makes you want to curl up with everyone you've ever loved and just listen to the enchanting acoustics and lyrics. Imitations has a heroic compilation of songs that picks at the heartstrings and leaves one feeling elated and ready to conquer love again no matter what it may bring. It's real music and put simply, it's oh so good!
one word: awesome
author: Brianthis cd combines dean's soothing vocals with sweet harmonies on guitar... it's got the effectiveness of Barry White, and the honesty of Dashboard Confessional
best things i've lisened to in a while
author: Dani SchrothThe album has so many different aspects of music in at. it is folksy but his voice is rock so it blends so great together. the added realistic club noises in the back bring it all together i can't stop listening to it and i am sending the website link, to order it, to all my friends.

author: Pär WinbergHere is a CD for all you lovers of nice singer songwriters with a touch of the midwest sound we love so much here at the melodic net. Dean delivers a very nice produced CD filled with pearls like the opening up-tempo track "In And Out" that could have been one of Trains softer tracks from their debut-album, the acoustic edged "Each Every One" which is another one in the same calibre. Dean sure has a nice voice, somewhere between Pat Mohanan of Train, Neal Casal and James Taylor (he stands in a t-shirt with James Taylor on the sleeve) and the whole album is a sure check out for you guys who love a strong voice who deliver acoustic edged nice written tracks. Dean Fields is sure a nice new discovery.
This is good stuff
author: GregThe album Imitations flows beautifully, from start to finish. Dean's powerful yet soothing voice, omitting influential lyrics, combined with excellent acoustic guitar work along with an assortment of opportune outside instrumentation, make the album superb. Though similar at times to such other artists as Radiohead or Dave Matthews Band, the sound of the album is rather unique. It is definitely worth it for anyone who enjoys acoustic guitar playing as well as strong but not overzealous singing to purchase this album.
faaaaabulous
author: Jenni've decided that on this CD Dean Fields sounds like a happy Teddy Thompson + a slightly less Irish David Gray, making him the most intriguing artist i've heard in a while. I recommend tracks 1, 3, and 5, but the whole CD is great and worth about ten times what i had to pay for it.
Great CD, Dean is a rising star.
author: Jason SchoenerGreat performance in lodge one at William and Mary. It pumped our team up to win CAA's that weekend and kept Jacob Frey off the stage from doing his stand-up comedy. He was better off selling the CD.
only one word needed, incredible
author: DanI have not stopped playing it since I purchased it in Virginia Beach. I had a 7 hour trip home to NY and played the CD the whole time, it kept my full attention for each song, over and over again. Looking forward to seeing him live on his next trip to NY.
Captivating and spellbinding...
author: Terri Leigh EastmeadEmbraces and locks you into a spell...stirring up emotions that are familiar and real. Absolutely mesmerizing and extrememly addictive!
Buy it NOW!!!
author: Jeremy CristA friend of mine in my dorm here at Mary Washington College is friends with Fields, and had him come down and play a concert for us. I was blown away, and bought the CD that night. It is a melodic, heartfelt CD, with catchy beats and memorable lyrics. Fields will be big, and this is the CD that will start it all. Don't be the last in the know. Buy two copies - one for yourself, and one for your best friend. They will thank you for it.
refreshingly different - sensitive
author: JenniferA nice refreshingly different style of contemporary country. You can feel the emotions of the artist through his sensitive music. I love it!
sensitive, thoughful, beautiful music
author: SusanClassically folk...contemplative and orginial. Songs have good variety and contrast. This CD makes a nice presentation of an up-and-coming artist.
