Experimentally skewed indie pop-rock

notes

Self-described as experimentally skewed indie pop, this sums up what they play well. If the mention of the word ‘pop’ scares you, fear not, it’s pop in the sense that the songs weave about and actually arrive at destinations, rather than the directionless bipolar noodling of other bands in this style. The Dead Pan Rangers are all about taking you on an adventurous ride through emotional atmospheric landscapes, lulling you into submission with fragile majestic passages. Sometimes they catch you off guard to pummel your senses with quick-draw apocalyptic sharp shooting waves of melodic distortion. Yes, their influences may be worn proudly on their sleeves, but they manage to up the ante on the often drearily banal loud quiet formula, shifting the focus from shoe gazing to the swirling skies and beyond, creating orchestrations that drag you in alone from a crowded room. The Dead Pan Rangers could not have chosen a better name for themselves. - The Package
