The reality is this disc, built around the considerable talents of guitarist/vocalist Deacon John Moore and a slew of high-powered friends, is a smoking, cooking, rollicking effort packed with powerful Crescent City blues, R&B and rock 'n' roll.
It doesn't hurt that the Deacon played guitar on many of the hits that came out of Cosimo Matassa's legendary New Orleans recording studio. And it certainly helps that Moore is joined in this labor of musical love by the likes of Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Wardell Quezergue, the Zion Harmonizers, Teedy Boutté, Henry Butler, Amadee Castenell, a fat horn section and the best rhythm players in New Orleans. From 'Jumpin' in the Morning' through 'Going Back to New Orleans' the CD turns the spotlight on classic sounds. Those sounds are so soulful, so, well, jumping, that nostalgia need not figure in."

author: bluesfantomThe first thing I always seem to listen to in a new recording is the rhythm section. Does it make me bounce or put me to sleep? A great rhythm section like this pops, and everything feels snappy. And that is what is going on here. A real finger poppin', snappy good time. Of course, coming out of NOLA one would expect as much, but when it goes that extra something, it becomes exquisite. A band sound like this can make anyone up front sound good. So, add a seasoned pro with great pipes and, well...damn I love this sort of thing! Jump start my heart and do it again!

Wardell Q's charts are unbelievable; rasping tenor sax from a previous decade, great variety of style and tempo, but musical quality remains just GREAT. Deacon John has been an under-sung stalwart hero in New Orleans for so many years- now his time has come!!
