DAX is an intoxicating blend of styles ranging from industrial and EBM to funk and pop. It always grooves and it passionately rocks. Lyrically, the material is personal, challenging and pointed at times, dark and sensual at others.

notes
Austin-based artist DAX delivers a sound that has been compared to Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie. Singer Dax Callner and his eponymous band, DAX, are winning over fans with a mash-up of styles from multiple genres.
Their recently released CD, DAX: The EP, showcases a musical blend of industrial, funk, and rock with infectious rhythms and soulful lyrics. Lyrically, the material is personal, challenging and pointed at times, dark and sensual at others.
Popping in the CD, the listener floats along the heavy pounding rhythm of “Submission” or sinks into the trippy, sexy “Lay My Head.” The rapid churning “Not Worth the Paper” was featured on a Westwood One/Song Playstation compilation featuring artists Crystal Method and Sevendust, and is one of three songs featured in the videogame “In the Groove.” The CD-single for “Submission” was recently distributed to 10,000 fans worldwide.
Dax, the eldest of seven children, grew up as part of a show-biz family in New York, Los Angeles and Boston. His mother is a vocal instructor and his father is television director Marty Callner, who is credited for his work with the Rolling Stones, Britney Spears, Aerosmith, and Madonna. Although his parents were in the limelight, Dax did not go unnoticed as the preadolescent metamorphosis who “wanted to rock” in the Twisted Sister video “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
DAX recently opened for the legendary A Flock of Seagulls and performed onstage with Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. Music Connection Magazine has also named them as one of the Top 100 Unsigned artists in the U.S.

A disc that will get under the listener's skin
author: Frances Mai-LingDAX has a wide vocal range and with the hard guitars, the drum beats and the strings makes for a versatile sound. DAX has a distinctive voice that sounds very good with his arrangements. His music has a bit old rock with a dash of industrial, making a nice combination. It's a disc that will get under the listener's skin on each play.
All in all, I think Dax has potential
author: FM SoundHi there…I’d like to introduce you to the Trent Reznor of the 21st century. Or at least, that’s what was the first thing to come to my mind when I popped in Dax’s self-titled three-track EP and the industrial rock fusion called “Submission” came blaring through my stereo speakers. While I definitely dig the whole industrial-electronic-rock hybrid thing, I unfortunately keep automatically comparing him to NIN and ever time Dax does not come out on top. Thankfully though things did start to get better on the second track “Not Worth the Paper,” which was recently featured on a Westwood One/Sony Playstation compilation. This track had a little more of a creative edge that helped me to start distinguishing Reznor from Dax. All in all, I think Dax has potential but will have to do a bit more to disassociate his music from artists that came before him because I’m not going to be the only one making comparisons.
Electronica with a rock attitude
author: Score!MusicThe best description of Dax is industrial electronica with a rock attitude. While "Submission" is rife with a NIN influence the vocals are more modern rock (without the growly-screamy), "Lay My Head" has more of an electronic sound filled with industrial-distorted vocals. However, DAX's voice is actually pretty strong despite the musical style, which lends a slight disadvantage towards actually hearing what he's got to say. "Not Worth the Paper" displays more of a little sexy-funk than the other two tracks and has a great bassy groove and tough little guitar riff. This is one of those discs that you'll want to blare when you've got the inkling to be a little "bad". (Picture slinking across the room toward your lover as you slowly discard your clothing). I think I'll hang on to this one!
