notes
Born and raised in Chicago, David Thiele did what many young kids with a passion for music do: he taught himself how to play the guitar and started a band with his brother. After developing as a songwriter, and upon graduating from high school, David decided to take his music more seriously, gaining recording experience at The Recording Workshop, and touring experience with a group called ARC. This group toured high schools across the country, performing at anti-drug assemblies. David was the lead singer and at 18 years old gained not just touring, but life experience, learning to live and perform with many different people.
After a year on the road with ARC, David returned to Chicago and recorded a 13-song demo. His tape caught the attention of certain music industry personnel. These people picked David to compete in an industry Spotlight Showcase where he won runner-up in his region, performing in front of music industry executives and A & R scouts, and receiving an award from artist and producer, Charlie Peacock.
In 1997, at the advice of several companies, David relocated to Nashville. There he produced song demos for BMG Publishing as well as some independent records. He also started a mainstream band called "Club Strange." There was label interest, but the stigma of being a mainstream rock band in Nashville eventually led to David's decision to leave.
David returned to Chicago in May of 2002 where he performed solo gigs, produced various projects for other artists and also recorded his self-produced cd titled "The Opening Act". David's song "She" was chosen from literally thousands of entries as the runner up in the National Academy of Art's and Sciences demo review contest. Panelist judges ranged from major label representatives to major market commercial radio personnel.
Since moving to Los Angeles in September of 2003, David has played various clubs with great response including the legendary Hotel Café' in Hollywood, Genghis Cohen, and The Gig. He has also been declared a finalist in the U.S.A. Songwriting competition. David just independently released his self-produced cd titled "The Opening Act" in January 2004.

Incredible CD
author: MarkIt's hard to believe this guy isn't signed yet. What a talent! It's positive, music you can relate to. Great originality and just a blast to listen to.
no short way to say it!!!
author: Aaromanda Olson Sound IncThe first time I heard this record I was bare back and lying in a lurid heap of my own self aggressions. I lay burdened, wallowing pitilessly with my transgressions in a dismal pit of self rought propensity. Alone, penniless, wandering an endless road to desparity, I realized what was accually looking me in the face all along. I begged of my defused senses to preach to me of the glorious wonders of life, romance, the rigors of passionate hard sought discovery, and the search for the American Dream. As my arid hide drew nigh to its chapped limits, my parched ears where employed by the torrent feud of solaric guitar chips versus the anguished fervor of laxadasical harmonies. I begged and begged of my captor to please free my coitus soul. But the lein placed on my aural chakra would not...could not let slumber shadow my soul. The imminent laison joined all my sources of inevitability to forbode the extentuated intensity of the truth wherein. I could not...would not let this opportunity of grandeur of self-fulfillment pass without a single thread of unchanging, everpresent, willingness to grasp the fulfillment of willing fortitude. David has found the innermost fortune allowed to begat to one and all. I beg of you...David, allow mine eyes to glimmer in the sunlight once more. Allow my touch to contour what the cherubs have called the clouds. Allow my taste buds to savor. Allow aromatic blends of purity to engulf my soul. Allow my tainted ears to believe. Believe in the biblical sanctity of good over evil. Only you are the one who will stand between life and death. Now, lets do it.
Look out STAR 98.7 David Thiele is in Town!
author: Jason "Fashizzle" WarrenDavid Thiele: The Opening Act is an awesome compilation of years of effort (on and off the stage). The hooks are catchy and the songs are fresh. If you don't have this CD, please, do yourself a favor and buy it right now. You'll be glad you did!
Sweet Sounds
author: Dirty Little GirlThis CD, unlike many others, makes you reflect and think about the music AND the lyrics you are listening to. Dave is such an amazing writer. He doesn't write about just anything. He doesn't super produce catchy songs. But, he takes his own life experiences and puts them out there for the whole world to experience. Above all, this music makes me smile. When I need a good uplifting moment I just POP in a piece of Dave! =)-T
thiele rocks
author: sammy mizellDave Thiele rocks......This is one of the best CD's on the planet...Thanks Dave for being true to your art..You Freakin Rock...
Truly Remarkable
author: SUNI myself am a self-produced artist, and I initially bought this CD because I knew it was independently produced, and I wanted to hear the quality. I was amazed at the overall sound of the CD, but what was more was that I realized David has a lot of skill on all fronts, composing, performing, producing and recording. So not only does this album sound good from the recording standpoint, it sounds magnificent from the musical. Excellent job David! You are truly an individual with a mess load of talent :)

Well, for starters, if you're any fan of John Mayer or Duncan Sheik, just skip the rest of this review and go straight to the "BUY IT" link. But for those of you that need a little more convincing, this album leaves nothing to be desired in the genre of driving, male piano and acoustic guitar-driven pop with curtains of electronics ruffling in the energy of passion and emotion. Having the sensation of being both crunchy and textured while also being cushy and buoyant, this thick, juicy pop swells the senses with the warmth of summer sun.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
author: Angela McGillI just got the CD today and I have listened to it 8 times! Awesome lyrics with an awesome sound. Dave is a truly talented and amazing singer and songwriter.I wish he would have sang to me when he was holding my hand in the 6th grade!Buy his CD!
I LOVE this CD!
author: Vinny ThieleI just love this CD. I make my Mom play it in the van constantly and my sister, Keeley, and I sing along to every song. Keep the hits coming, Uncle David!!
modern poprock with tons of hooks and refrains
author: Par WinbergDavid Thiele is another one of all these great discoveries I’ve done via the great CD Baby-page. And what sort of stuff is he playing then? Well, it’s quite an own unique style of modern poprock with tons of hooks and refrains. Add David’s great voice and you’ll have a new favourite in this artist. I just wrote modern poprock, but there are a lot modern westcoast-vibes in his music as well. You know the sort of music that Peter Mayer (from PM) delivers these days. It is a very solid album all through. From the opening “Forever”, via third out “She” (with a lot of Tal Bachman vibes), fourth out “Tomorrow Land” to seventh out “Beautiful Mess” with a tremendous refrain (in the WhiteHeart sort of school) and I’m sure you will love it all of you! And how the man sings!! Phew. And there are more songs in the same high class. I’m sure you will have a new friend in this guy. I’m sure.
Great songwriting, gorgeous vocals, gentle guitars, good hooks... Wow!
author: David BruceWow! what can I say but wow! I have been following this guy's career since he was 19 and he was great then! This cd is from a true singer/ songwriter. Plus he produced and engineered all the tracks and played all the guitars, bass, keyboards, etc, save some of the drum loops and live drums. Great songwriting, gorgeous vocals, gentle guitars, good hooks... I don't think this guy will ever open for someone like a John Mayer because he'd be pulled from the tour in 2 weeks because, well, he's just too good! David knows how to get the listener's attention right from the get go. None of this, "don't bore us, get to the chorus" with this guy. Every song has a groove and a hook that won't let you go! You're forced into submission and made to hum these tunes! And the lyrics are catchy and cool. "Shes a work of art, velvet like Monet..." from She, shows maturity beyond David's years. It would be a shame to not hear at least one of these songs getting major air play in the next 4 months. (Are you listening, Clear Channel?) Whichever A&R guy grabs David first is gonna be smiling for the next 5 years. I don't really like pop music, but Opening Act makes me reconsider...
he truly is amazing
author: Churchie*David is just amazing - he is super talented and when you see him live he is even better. With a band or just he and his guitar - either way he will take your breath away. I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to see him live!
What a big surprise!
author: Erik BjorgumThis is what makes me still believe in buying new music. "The opening act" is about everything that makes me happy about singer songwriters. Not many has the ability to write and perform like this anymore. David Thiele's voice should soon be up alongside with big ones. Give me more, sooner than later!!!
Better than Giordano's Stuffed Pizza and that's real good!
author: Mike ThieleLike I said, this CD is better than Giordano's Stuffed Pizza and that's real good! Pick this one up today! Not because I'm Dave's brother, but because IT IS the best CD he has EVER put out! This STAR quality talent is ready for you!!!
Every Cut Is A Winner
author: Brent BorenThe Opening Act is one of those rare CDs. Every cut is a winner. Fire this one up and there's no skippping to hear the good songs. If you are tired of getting ripped off by CDs with only one or two great songs then this is the one to buy. You won't be disappointed!
In a Word -- Awesome
author: Mike RickardDavid Thiele is a terrific songwriter, guitar player, singer...He's the real deal. I ordered the CD after I listened to the song samples online, and I am so glad I did. The production is superb and there's not a bad song on the disc. If there's any justice in the music world, everyone will know who he is.
A Five-Star Effort. David Thiele is going places.
author: Wade HaynesI saw David Thiele live in L.A., and I walked out with this disc. Man, I'm glad I did. Each song has the mark of mastery, and it's impossible to ignore his silky voice and sensitive delivery. I can't compare him to Dave Matthews or John Mayer, because he's better (and broader) than that. If you like polished, passionate guitar-pop, you'll love this CD. Buy it now.
- author: Clarissa Sparks
Watch out John Mayer, and especially Dave Matthews because David Thiele will kick your ass with this one! David writes such uplifting music with genuine lyrics, you can't help but get in a good mood after listening to it. The Opening Act is one of the best things to come into fruition and should be an intricate piece of work in any true music lover's collection.
The Real Thiele
author: Christian DutchThe great thing about this CD is the variety of styles David is able to pull of without sounding forced or contrived. Whether you're into smooth slow songs, funky upbeat flings or straight up pop sensations David delivers the goods. The production quality is top-notch and even more impressive when you realize David is responsible for everything musical minus the drums. Buy this CD and you too will know it's the real Thiele!
The Great American Song Is Back
author: MiltMagicThis cd should be in everyone's collection, right next to Paul Simon, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Bill Withers and any other classic Singer/Songwriter artist you may love. This cd has what it takes to find a permanent home in the hearts of people everywhere: a web of great melodies, brilliant lyrics and superb production all spun by a unique natural talent. David Thiele has a gift which the world will soon embrace and call upon time and time again, just as we do now with our Paul Simon's, Jim Croce's, James Taylor's and Bill Withers'.
NEW FRESH SOUND
author: Mark NorquistThis CD is a Masterpiece. If you enjoy any type of melodic,popish,mood-setting music, this is the CD for you. Being a fan of David Thieles music for years, proves that, this is his best work. Turn down the lights, Light a candle........Enjoy
John Mayer meets Duncan Sheik
author: Michael ElsnerThis is an unbelievable CD from someone who is just about to hit it big. Unlike most CD's released today, every song on The Opening Act is a hit waiting to for radio to pick up on it. The only comparison I can make would be a cross between John Mayer and Duncan Sheik, but Dave really has his own style. The production is great, the performances are great, Dave's vocal style is a 1 in a million gift. I can't say enough about this CD except that everyone who enjoys great music and great songs needs to buy this.
