Internationally acclaimed blues musician and recording artist Rory Block wrote of him, "David Reed is an extremely competent, polished and exciting musician."
The music of David Reed romps with ragtime, rolls with rock, jumps with calypso, skanks de reggae and shimmers with NewAge stylings. A superb songwriter, fingerstyle guitarist and seasoned performer (He was a founding member of Max Creek, one of the northeast's most legendary jam bands and the folkrock/reggae ensemble, Tamboura), Reed has been bringing a smile to the face and a beat to the feet of audiences young and old for most of his life.
His lively, eclectic show takes him on an annual tour of the US Virgin Islands and in 2004, his solo banjo-driven performance of "True Religion" was a show-stopper at the Lugano, Switzerland "Blues to Bop Festival"'s gospel concert. He was chosen as a semi-finalist for the 2004 Newport Folk Festival Songwriting Contest for his song "Highway One". And in 2005, Reed was selected as the first American artist to perform at the 8th Annual Bansko (Bulgaria) International Jazz and World Music Festival where he got the gypsies to dance to calypso! Acoustic Guitar magazine's April 2006 issue features a cool article about Reed, his gear and his music in their "Reader's Rig" profile and he has been a feature in newspapaper articles throughout the northeast, Caribbean and Europe.
His first studio solo album, "Try It Again" (1988), and his two DIY recordings, "TuTu Much Is Nev'enuff!" (2001) and "Eclecticity" (2003), continue to garner positive reviews. And now with "Asleep At The Keel" (2007) recorded at Studio F in New York by Ernie Fortunato, anything could happen and probably will.
