Original blues and R&B from a veteran songwriter and piano man.

notes

"The history of piano blues is played out on this album: barrelhouse rockers like 'You're Lyin' Again,' slithering New Orleans funk on 'Love Honor and Obey,' and torch song weepers like 'Bourbon in My Cup' all play flawlessly... Ultimately, Egan's tasteful touch comes through in each track on this delightful record."

"You Don't Know Your Mind is worth the wait... alternately wry and touching lyrics and deep, rich vocal phrasing... a CD filled with highlights... and like the work of Louisiana songwriting legend Bobby Charles, Egan's new version of "Sing It" -- his hit for Marcia Ball, Tracy Nelson and Irma Thomas -- shows that some songs shine brightest when they're delivered by their creators."
Scott Jordan, The Independent

"The 11-song set is a simmering bouillabaisse of originals that serves the full range of Egan's musical flavors spiked with his knowing, whisky cured vocals... 'Bourbon in My Cup' is a 100 proof, late-night ballad that would have made Charles Brown smile."

With most music that I love dearly, I had to listen to it a few times before the love really sunk in to where the heart is. But Egan's latest album had me stompin' and yellin' "Hell, yeah!" right off the line. If you like this genre, Egan is a Grand Master with few peers that I've heard. And if you're trying to get a woman to fall in love with you, play her track three. What a musical genius this guy is.

"You Don't Know Your Mind" is a winner. The fourth track "Bourbon in my cup" is classic blues which could hit for of any number of famous Blues artists (but needs no better treatment than that provided by its author on this record). "Sing It" and its distinctive New Orleans beat has addictive lyric and a good time feel. One of the things that separates this CD from other records is its charm. Songs like "Small Fry", "If It Is What It Is (Its Love)" and "Proud Dog" create a desire to know these guys as they are obviously as much fun as they are cool. My first listening of "You Don't Know Your Mind" went straight through from the first to the last track without my little brain wandering or asking for a break. A good sign and a tribute to the musicianship and instrumentation choices utilized here. Egan's voice is as rich and expressive as ever. This is a CD I highly recommend. Bob Robira
