notes
A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, David has been writing songs since age 13, at age 16 he was featured in a radio interview about his songwriting and had already performed for a crowd of over 7,000 people, he became a published poet at age 18 and over the years has become recognized as an exceptional songwriter. This CD, TWO HANDS ARE ENOUGH contains an incredible twenty original songs written by David. These songs span from his days in high school, through his undergraduate years at Elon College, graduate school at Old Dominion University to the present time of 1997.
As David explains, "The irony of Two Hands is that the project was simply a 'cleaning of the closet' of a bunch of songs I had written but not recorded. I felt in order to 'move on' to better songs I needed to get these songs recorded and out of the way, Which was the sole purpose of this project. I did not expect any recognition for this particular CD and was overwhelmed when all of a sudden I was receiving many positive reviews of the disc. I have always been very critical of my own songwriting, the reviews and positive statements about my songs and songwriting on Two Hands Are Enough, let me know that maybe I had finally hit a point in my songwriting where I personally could say, 'maybe, I am finally at a decent point in my talents as a songwriter.' Even after the disc having been out for six years I still have people tell me that they heard one of the songs on the radio recently. I feel very fortunate to be recognized for an aspect of who I am in such a positive, public way."
Quotes from reviews of Two Hands Are Enough:
"If Virginia Beach were to name a songwriter laureate, no doubt it would be homegrown David Carter."
Victoria Hecht, Editor, Virginia Beach Sun Newspaper
"Youthful and simple, Carter is a storyteller... his autobiographical lyrics show the common ground many of us share."
Eric Worden, Port Folio Weekly
"If every entity or area needs a spokesperson, David Carter would be a prime candidate for Virginia Beach. The entire disc has a local flavor to it with references to the 15th street fishing pier, Ocean Eddie's and having the girl of your dreams on the handle bar of your beach cruiser."
Jack W. Waddell, Flash Magazine
"I played it at home and as soon as Carter's rich, lyrical voice began, it was like a night out on Colley Avenue, or perhaps sitting on an ocean front deck watching the waves roll in."
Sam Martinette, Norfolk Compass Newspaper
"Singer-songwriter David Carter is one of the friendliest, most laid-back people in the Hampton Roads music community. Whether he's singing confessional heart break mode or engaging in Buffett style breeziness, Carter makes enjoyable music."
Sam MacDonald, Daily Press Newspaper
"Maybe She's Right,' 'Cucumber Cucumber Boat,' 'Fish,' 'Champagne, 'Somewhere Under This Moon' and others read like pages from his life. They all tell a tale of places he's been, people he's known and emotions he's felt."
Jaqueline Ross, Richmond Music Journal

DAVID CARTER IS SIMPLY THE BEST
author: jack & gayle smith RICHMONDGREAT C.D. A MUST FOR EVERYBODYS COLLECTION
All the songs are worth singing along to.
author: Kris van DeusenNot only are the vocals and instrument play world class, but the song writing itself gives this CD a magical quality. It is one of those albums that you can listen to straight through just about every time you play it and eventually you learn all the words. Every song is a good one.
Eclectic, emotional, enjoyable and elite!
author: Jody BarnockyThis cd is a real work of art (and heart!). I love that it is eclectic with different styles of music that speak to our different emotions. The lyrics are meaningful, poetic and sometimes humorous. I never tire of listening to it! Two Hands are Enough is in a class all its own--the best of the best...Elite!
Quite possibly the best CD I own..
author: Jason "twinkie" BryantWhen I first bought the CD four years ago, I sat back, played it and found my mind drifting off into a different realm of thoughts. David Carter's performances are unexplainable, but his music is priceless. "Two hands are enough" is one of those CD's that you simply have to own. No, its not mainstream, but the sheer quality of the songs on this CD make it truly a class piece of music. There are many "alternate" names for the CD around college campuses, but one thing it definately is, is an independent artist playing music for the mind, the motivation and the heart. David Carter is king of Virgnia Beach. His music encompasses a range of emotions. Everyone can relate to these songs whether you've heard them once or a thousand times. David writes from his heart and soul which is clearly evident on this CD. There is no better relaxation than sitting back, listening to TWO HANDS ARE ENOUGH!! George "Stoagie" Rombach, Pittsburgh PA

focus on original songs
author: Tammy GardnerYou can really feel the heart of the artist in the lyrics of these songs. Somewhere under this moon, Cayo Hueso and Last Star are my favorites! This disc is much more interesting than the average, run-of-the-mill radio fodder. I reccommend it.
It puts me in a good mood!
author: Sharon D.This is a great CD full of versatile music. I can listen to this CD no matter what mood I am in. The music ranges from slow, relationship songs like Somewhere Under This Moon (my favorite) to up beat, make you laugh songs like Mother Goose. Everyone should have this CD in their collection.
A Cd to help you remember the important things in life!
author: Trevor HoganThis CD is a quite a deep and meaningful CD that not only touches your heart but encompasses your soul. The first time I sat down to listen to this CD played it all of the way through, which is very rare for me. Each song pulled a different memory or emotional state from me. It is like David Carter put these songs on this CD to help you take a step back from the present and remember the past. With each song ranging from silly and happy to remembering that old girlfriend you lost to the twisted paths of life. I feel if this CD does not spark any type of emotion in you, then you either still live with your parents or are prescribed too much Prozac. Trevor Hogan Westport, CT IT Professional
Well written with broad appeal of all ages
author: Cheryl FramptonThe songs are well written lyrically wise, the overall feel is appealling to all ages-potentional for the songs to be covered in various formats. All in all enjoyable easy listening and inspiring cd.
the best I have ever heard
author: Bobby PinsonI have never enjoyed listening to anyone as much before
This CD rates 5 Stars on the Bad Parrot Scale
author: Jo-ey <-- 2 Syllables, Bad ParrotAll the songs on this cd are written by David and from ballads to fun songs, he covers a whole range of emotions. His ballads really remind you of being with that special someone. Somewhere Under This Moon is a great slow dance song, best done under a full moon in Key West. You hear that song and you are right there. Missing You Tonight, Maybe She's Right, and Here We Go Again all evoke great memories. Cucumber Boat, Mother Goose, Cayo Hueso and Fish are really fun songs. Not sure why someone from Key West hasn't used Cayo Hueso for P.R. Champagne could be the ultimate New Year's Eve song. Someone's missing the boat in a marketing department somewhere. All in all, it's a cd that you can listen to over and over and still enjoy. It is an essential part of any Bad Parrot's cd collection.
