  • Great cd for getting back on track.
    author: Mary England

I haven't sung for years and sometimes speaking for any length of time gives me a sore throat. I bought this cd to help me retrain myself in breathing and projection. It has already helped a lot. Mary England

I wrote a review of David Jones Introductory Lesson several years ago when I was 59. You can find it here. I am now 64 and continue to use the lesson regularly. It has helped a great deal in firming my voice up from top to bottom. My middle and lower voice in particular have benefitted greatly which is good because I am a bass. Although not a professional singer I do regular concerts and feedback suggests I am now singing a good deal better than before.

  • Superb CD and Superb service
    author: Anonymous

I took Opera singing lessons for many years prior to purchasing this CD. When work and like became more demanding, I drifted away from singing. I wanted a quality classical refresher cd with good instruction and vocal exercises to get me ready for working with a vocal coach again. I found exactly what I was looking for! The service I received from the CDbaby website was outstanding also, with a confirmation e-mail, fast shipping, and a follow up! Will buy from here again!

  • Great for young singers
    author: Julie Theus

Needed help with teaching a young singer who was "muscling" everything (lifting his larynx) quite successfully -- but with lots of vocal stress. Thanks for a method to work toward good, healthy habits for making great sound.

  • REALLY GOOD
    author: Mauri Hall

I liked this a lot, the CD has very good techniques and very good vocal exercises.

  • Great; Hoping for More
    author: anonymous

So glad to have this and hope Mr. Jones will create more CDs at more advanced levels.

  • Very Effective Vocal Routine
    author: Richard Scott

I am amateur singer in both choral and opera productions. Being between voice teachers, I was looking for some bel canto training, and saw this recommended on the Web by a professional opera singer of my acquaintance. After only a couple of weeks of daily practice with Mr. Jones's vocal routine, I have seen the ring (high overtones) in my voice become stronger overall and more consistent down into the lower register, and although I am a lyric baritone, I was able to sing the tenor part in an oratorio piece, in which my voice had previously given out from fatigue, without tension. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of this well-presented training.

  • Simple and educational
    author: Karlott Ólafsson

I find the cd´s being a very good training source. It´s easy to practising to and very good training lessons. Wish I had this much earlier... I wish David good luck on his teaching.

  • A voice teacher in your pocket
    author: Katharina Schlungs

Just what I needed: a professional clear explanation of all the main principles of singing. Vocal exercises are easy to follow and took care of one or two of my vocal problems. Try it and enjoy the way your voice will develop :-)

  • Introductory Lesson with David Jones
    author: Dorian Brown

Vocal problems led me to practice Mr. Jones' vocal warmup as daily exercises. That alone smoothed out much of my trouble and strengthened, cleared and extended my voice in all directions. I'm grateful.

  • David Jone
    author: janis kelly

this is a a clear sensible and helpful Cd full of accurate vocal advice. Thank you David

  • Great Material for Daily Use
    author: Marsha Sims

I am delighted with David Jones' Lessons CD. It is perfect material to warm up and practice with on a daily basis. His well-produced, mellifluous voice is a delight to work with and shows that he practices what he teaches. It is a great reference source to find answers to almost all questions that you may have about singing. I highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about learning to sing well!

  • Terrific
    author: Kerry Politzer

This 2-CD set is very educational and inspiring.

  • An Introductory Lesson with David Jones: A Resource for Voice Teachers and Singe
    author: Barbara Johnson

I have been singing most of my life but, as an untrained singer, I found my voice unpredictable. Mr. Jones' explanations of the vocal mechanism as well as the series of vocal exercises have helped tremendously. He delivers the information with such a mellifluous tone that it's a pleasure to listen! I'd love to find a teacher locally who uses his method.

  • CD Baby
    author: Martin Rayner

To me the instruction on David Jone's CD is a beacon of light in a confusing landscape. He simply radiates calm, clarity and authentic knowledge. The CD is my constant companion, I even have it on my iPod, and it has led me into a whole new level of understanding, and a determination to become a truly healthy instrument. I thank you Mr Jones:)

  • An Introductory Lesson with David Jones
    author: Michele Henderson

I found the information on the cd to be very much in line with what is taught by the best vocal instructors of our time. Mr. Jones has clearly had magnificent training, and his approach to opening the throat and singing on the breath is quite good. I find that there is not enough emphasis placed on cord closure, but no one has the entire package! I would HIGHLY recommend this cd, and will certainly make Maestro Jone's exercises a part of my daily routine!

  • David Jones
    author: Gabriel

I would reccomend this instructional CD to anybody who wants to learn to sing the proper way, the Author is very knowladgable

  • Wonderful!
    author: Emily Jackson

I am using the warm-up CD daily, and still learning new things from the instructional portion; absolutely a great investment!

  • An Introductory Lesson with David Jones
    author: Patrick Ardagh-Walter

This intelligently-structured and enjoyable lesson is an invaluable resource, both for newcomers to the Swedish-Italian approach and as a really good back-to-basics for working singers. The explanations are unambiguous and easy to assimilate, and 'difficult' concepts are given a new clarity. Whether you're a newcomer, or you're a singer who has hit vocal problems, or maybe you've simply hit a 'plateau', this lesson is going to help you. A fine introduction to a remarkable teacher.

  • Great CDs!!
    author: Anh

My teacher Lorraine Ernest recommended it and of course the CDs are great!! So good to have in the car, on the road, when I can't get to my lessons...

  • My singing toolbox has a new secret weapon . . .
    author: Andrew Grenon

The layout and structure of this course is very userfriendly. The concepts are easy to digest due mostly to Mr Jones colourful analogies. The pedagogy itself is a real eye-opener for myself, particularly the explanation of the Appoggio or 'leaning' on the breath. This course has definately helped me (and will continue to help me) become a more self-aware and vocally free singer. I highly recommend it as a tool to compliment lessons with a local voice teacher - provided they more or less subscribe to the principles outlined in this fantastic resource.

  • Just what I needed to jump-start my vocal training
    author: Carol Bolton

CD gives very clear, easy to follow instruction. I had been singing for years but not "breathing". Now I can do both. Thank you, David Jones

  • Recommended w/o reservation
    author: Jay

Anyone involved in the vocal arts would be well served to spend some time with the exercises on David's CD. With the plethora of vocal instruction available, this approach deserves the accolades it has received for its emphasis on healthy vocal habits and routines. From posture to breathing to vocalizations, this is a great start for anyone who is ready to get serious about their craft.

  • Very useful to me as a beginner
    author: Lewis Evans

Very useful to me as a beginner, very clear and easy to follow, to get me started with daily singing exercises. Most recommended.

  • Nice Lessons.... for me and my sons.
    author: Santo D'Simone

For a two CD set, it is very nice and actually covers more than I thought it would. My 17 year old son listens to it as well since he wants to learn how to sing using his upper head voice. Thanks. I would like to see more advanced lessons in the future for those of us who can't get to New York.

  • Surprisingly very helpful for beginners
author: Rose - Beginning voice student

I started voice lessons a few months ago and stumbled on Mr. Jones' helpful website. I ordered this out of curiosity and frustration because I felt like the only person in the world without ANY vibrato and like my voice was stuck in my chest/throat without any resonance. The instruction on the CD and the practice exercises encourage me to practice and at my super beginning level are so helpful. I have been using the CD for 2 weeks now and have developed a better sense of connectedness with my body and voice. It complements my voice lessons well and I have had a huge breakthrough. I can feel better resonance in my voice and I now have vibrato!!! I could not be more pleased!

  • I highly recommend it!
    author: Cantor J.P. Kissin

A wonderful CD with an extraordinary training. And it works! I highly recommend it!

  • Excellent!
    author: Anonymous

This CD is wonderful for anyone studies voice, regardless of level of skill. David Jones explains many complicated concepts very simply and even provides vocalisations. I'm a beginning voice student and my teacher and I have already noticed much improvement after I started listening to this CD and doing the exercises. Of course, a CD cannot replace a teacher, but this CD is definitely an excellent supplement and well worth it; I highly recommend it!

  • This course is very helpful.
    author: Shelley Davis

My husband and I are in a classic rock/country band, and play four to five sets a gig. The environment is usually smoky and dry, not the best of conditions for extended singing. We were having problems with hoarseness and cracking, that is, before receiving David Jones' CD. Although we are still mastering the techniques and exercises, we have already experienced an improvement in vocal strength and flexibility - less cracking, hoarseness, and better vocal control. We highly recommend this course to not only classical singers, but people in bar bands like ours. Thank you! www.bluecoyoteband.com

  • Great voice lesson
    author: Ed

Great for beguiners and good exercises to reenforce a professional musician.

  • Good CD to practice vocal technique and understand breath management.
    author: Goly

This CD is a wonderful resource for anyone who cares to use their voice better. I have a voice disorder and I am hoping that these exercises will help me recover my voice. I plan to give it a good try for while becasue I notice specific and intended areas of my throat and body are engaged when I do the exercises. David Jones explains his material clearly. He seems to have good knowledge of vocal function and shares it with a caring and sincere approach. The excercises are clearly demonstrated and seem to do exactly what they are supposed to do. I would appreciate more printed documentaion on the CD cover. Thanks

  • By this CD
    author: Ronald Rutgersson

I wish I had this CD long ago. In an easy way to understand David Jones explains the basics for good singing. I recommend it to all singers and singing teachers.

  • author: Sue Livingston, Voice Teacher and Professional Singer

This CD is a valuable addition to my voice lessons. David Jones is so clear and concise in his delivery of sometimes complicated vocal techniques. I have learned a lot from this CD and feel that I can now explain things clearer to my students after hearing Mr. Jones' explainations. I highly recommend it to other teachers and students alike.

  • It's a good start, but...
    author: An Advanced Singer

I purchased this CD out of curiousity. I was interested in hearing Mr. Jones' ideas about voice placement, how to keep the focus and ring throughout the entire range of the voice by means of adjusting the resonators / space, and his "tricks" on how to take a low breath. Although, there were many good things on this CD, like keeping the "ng" feeling when singing, and good ideas on how to take a low breath, I felt that it was too basic for an advanced singer (I was disappointed that he didn't address the upper register - all exercises were done in the low to upper middle voice). After listening to the entire CD, I found myself asking: "Is that it?" Personally, I think Mr. Jones' website has much more information to offer. His CD was a good start, but it is definitely an "introductory lesson" as the CD title states.

  • The "Lessons" were good, and DO work. However, I was surprized that it was devid
    author: Fred McCall

I enjoyed the LESSONS, but was perplexed by dividing it into TOO high, or TOO low. So, being a Tenor, I just sang the Soprano parts. Hope I'm not being TOO picky, but COME ON, isn't it a little SIMPLE ? Fred NcCall P.S. The Italian vowels make it easy to reach high C.

  • A wonderful lesson
    author: Patricia Menke

The CD is exactly what I expected, but with much more information. I am using it daily and have already benefited.

  • An extremely valuable contribution to vocal pedagogy
author: Robin Lynne Frye, professional mezzo-soprano and voice teacher

I have been a student of David Jones since 1992. This CD set offers a clear and concise distillation of many of the essential concepts that David teaches. I have heard the difference that David's teaching makes in other singers in his studio, have experienced dramatic changes in my own singing and understanding of the voice as a result of working with him, and have used his concepts with great success in my private teaching and in my teaching at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. It is an extra bonus for me to have this CD available since relocating from New York to North Carolina; I can play the CD and have a "lesson" with David long distance. I eagerly await the development of more CDs in the series to demonstrate the application of David's wealth of knowledge to more advanced vocal concepts. I am enthusiastically recommending this CD to all of my students.

  • Clear Vocal Technique for Healthy Singing!
author: Victoria Rapanan / Voice Teacher / Performer

I have been studying with David Jones for the past 2 1/2 years, and have incorporated what I've learned in my own singing, as well as with all of my students. He is THE Master of vocal technique. This CD is a godsend for anyone who wants clear, concise vocal instruction that is healthy and balanced. In a world that is filled with unhealthy vocal technique, this CD straightens it all out, and it is all at your fingertips! As I have witnessed with my own students, all of the exercises work, and some make an immediate improvement! I recommend it to everyone - beginner or seasoned professional.

  • This Recording Targets Specific Vocal Problems:
author: Dianne Thornburgh, CCC-SLP / Voice Teacher / Therapist

These two CDs are excellent! I decided to write a review because the exercises specifically target not only the building of the middle register, but also the release of tongue and jaw tension. I especially like the exercises that tame the root of the tongue, as I have a small mouth and have to be on my guard against tongue base retraction. That does not negate the value of all the exercises on the two CDs. I have incorporated techniques from the Swedish-Italian School with both my voice students and voice therapy clients, especially in finding frontal focus and contrasting front and back vowels. I can't wait for Mr. Jones' pedagogy book to be printed!

  • Building Vocal Beauty on a Firm Foundation!
author: Meredith Hall / Professional Soprano / Canada , U.S., Europe

This CD is wonderful resource for singers of all levels, and for teachers. David Jones explains his technical concepts with great clarity and directness. This is a straightforward, sane and caring approach to building a firm foundation for vocal beauty. The excellent excercises are clearly demonstrated in reasonable keys. I anxiously await the sequel - as this is an "introductory lesson" hopefully this will be just the first of a series of several Cd's which tackle increasingly more challenging technical concepts! Wonderful!

  • A Missing Vocal Link Discovered!
author: George Antolik, Ph. D / Voice Teacher / Singer

David Jones has done a masterful job of presenting the tenets of the Swedish-Italian school of singing. His CD recording presents the philosophical basis of this school in a clear, logical manner. Topics such as breathing, posture, vowel formation, tongue position, vowel modification and others are explained and, when appropriate, demonstrated by David Jones and a Soprano colleague. Maestro Jones has a very well-produced voice in both the speaking and singing modes, giving credence to what he is teaching regarding the Swedish-Italian school of singing. This is a very important addition to the field of vocal pedagogy as it adds much new material to a significant school of singing. In my opinion, the recording would be a bargain at twice the current cost. Whether you are a singer, teacher of singing, or a speaker, you will find many, many useful suggestions for improving your own or your students' voices.

  • Wonderful for Tired Vocal Cords!
    author: Danielle / Radio Announcer

I work for a radio station in LA and have been going home vocally tired and hoarse until I got David Jones' double CD set. My throat was raw before and I was speaking completely incorrectly. I no longer suffer from this hoarseness and vocal fatigue. These exercises work miracles on the speaking voice. Buy it immediately!!!

  • True and Authentic Technique Now Available!
    author: Joe Galleli / Singer

I have searched the whole web looking for real vocal technique on CD or tape and only found 'Get a voice quick cd’s’ which anybody who has studied singing knows is not possible without real vocal exercises that develop all the voice and help you understand how your voice works. I wrote to David Jones last year pleading for help for people like myself who need his knowledge made available to the public for distance learning and to help us find true singing teachers instead of charlatans or the genuinely misguided out there. I bought the 2 CD's and state they live up to all my hopes and expectations as a singing student. There is nothing else out there so comprehensive as a basic teaching aid that unless another Singing Teacher of the same stature and repute in the field of singing releases lessons on audio this is the definitive support material for all singing students who want to see if they can develop a great voice and keep it! The only problem I see for students is that once you know what a good technique is, you need a teacher who understands it too. So hopefully good teachers will buy it and learn from the Master Teacher David Jones! For Goodness sake... Buy it while it is available as this is the REAL THING.

  • A Very Special Kind of Instruction:
author: Elizabeth Wright / Soprano / Voice Teacher / South Africa

I have been following David Jones Articles for a couple of years and even written to him once or twice with queries to which he very helpfully replied, so I was extremely thrilled to purchase this valuable set. I have found the explanations clear to follow and very much along the lines of what I have been teaching, and the exercises so helpful. I would highly recommend this as a sound technique that could certainly never harm a voice. If there is one suggestion, it is that in the wonderful vocal warm up CD, the singer only sings the first one or two and then one can carry on with a sense of purpose, I just find it a bit slow to listen to each pitch being demonstrated, but perhaps for a beginner this is helpful as the ear is not yet developed.

  • A Special Access to Solid Vocal Technique:
author: Dav'd Robinson / Professional Tenor

In the search to produce the best and most expressive vocal emissions, singers look for the most viable solution. The question is which vocal technique among the many different ones would be the most appropriate? This CD provides a clear answer to this question. It includes an array of highly efficient vocal exercises for both the male and female voices. I believe it will guide the singer towards healthy vocal habits and will provide a solid foundation on technical concepts. Naturally, it is important to remember that even excellent books or CDs, such as this one, will not substitute the live guidance of a fine vocal coach.

  • A Vocal Pedagogy Course on CD! Wonderful!
author: Esther Simkin / Voice Teacher / Performer

I am an active dramatic coloratura and voice teacher and I have been following Mr. Jones' work for the past couple of years and I cannot say enough about how thorough and highly effective this technique is and what a boon this 2-CD set is for teachers and singers. This collection is worth its weight in gold and the result of both a respect and a passion for the art of beautiful singing.

  • A Voice Building Tool:
    author: Geoff Wilson / Australia

I am 59 years old, and – although not a professional singer – I have had quite a bit of previous tuition and experience as a singer. I also have several instructional tapes and books from various vocal coaches, all of which were helpful. Never the less, like many other singers I suppose, I have had ongoing difficulties in certain areas. While I have not had David Jones’ instructional CDs very long, my ongoing practice with the exercises has helped overcome those vocal difficulties. It is a great thing that a vocal coach of David Jones’ standing should be prepared to put together an instructional set of CDs to help singers ranging from professionals to beginners.

  • A Road to Vocal Health!
    author: Kristin

I have been reading David Jones' vocal articles for years and finally got up the courage to leave a voice teacher and a chorus that were contributing to my poor vocal health. I purchased the CD set to use in the interim until I begin lessons with my new coach. The CD has been very helpful to me and I use the warm-ups on a daily basis. I have learned so much about how the whole body works to produce a beautiful sound. I highly recommend it. Even my husband has started using it to correct his breathing problems.

  • Simply THE best!!!
author: Gus Goldberger / Attorney / Cantor

As a professional cantor who has been struggling with my singing voice for many years I now have a new perspective on singing which no voice teacher (except my Father who was a bel canto concert singer in Denmark and Montreal many years ago when I could not appreciate his wisdom) has explained in a clear straight forward way as Maestro Jones presents it in his new CD. For example, no teacher focused on my lack of singing in the mask, and the need to lower the larynx, etc. to avoid damaging the vocal cords. While I have been told about the "ng" and humming exercises, it was never explained in real terms to make it meaningful. When I listen to the CD, Jones demonstrates the difference and boy is there a difference. At least I have a new focus and will be working on it until I have the pleasure of meeting him in person to have him assess my progress. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who struggles with the voice in one fashion or another.

  • Two Thumbs UP!!!
author: Marie McMarrow / Voice Teacher / Singer

David Jones' CD is a comprehensive yet understandable collection of vocal concepts gathered for both teacher and student to understand easily. Including vocalization of both male and female voice, it covers the core of heatlhy concepts that produced such singers as Flagstad and Bjoerling. My students can review this recording before their lessons and be ahead of the game in their process. In addition, they will build the dicipline needed to become professional singers. I strongly recommend this CD for both teachers and students who want a clear understanding of the Swedish/Italian School.

  • Exceptional training for all styles of singing!!!
author: Lorene Phillips / Soprano / Voice Teacher

David Jones’ Introductory Lesson is full of accurate and practical vocal concepts that will keep singers performing for years to come. His explanations and vocalizations benefit singers and teachers at all levels by providing concise narratives that synthesize his mastery of vocal pedagogy and technical prowess. If you are serious about being a professional singer or teacher, you must study the Swedish-American school concepts that David presents. I might dare to say, if you master the teachings and vocal concepts contained in an "Introductory Lesson with David Jones", you can skip conservatory!

  • Extraordinary Training!!!!!
    author: Cathy Pope / London

David Jones' understanding of singers and vocal technique is peerless. It is based so securely and given humbly and what is more it works beautifully. This is very, very rare in our profession. I would encourage anyone sincerely interested in finding answers to vocal problems to hear what he has to say on this CD.
