"This is by far the most grabbing male folk album to come through our doors in months. It's hard not to make comparisons to Paul Simon's more sensitive folk writing with a similar mix of warmth, open space, breathy vocals, innocence and a dewy, green clarity of intention. His songs have a way of stealing your breath away and removing you momentarily from the passing of time, suspending you in full-body harmonies. While he has a knack for open-hearted, reflective songs, there is the slightest echo of acoustic jam band writing, giving this album a well-balanced emotional scope from track one to eleven. Bravo."

"...a CD of such exquisite quality that you are immediately enthralled by it. A CD which is always close to your sound system so you can play it daily..."

"This masterpiece is worthy of a place in the singer/songwriter Hall of Fame."

"Breathtakingly beautiful..." & "...A true listening experience..."

"As far as I’m concerned Tate is the best singer/songwriter around at the moment."

- Folk Forum's Paul Van de Wiel

"...Marvelous voice! At once versitile, dynamic and angel-like."

"He possesses the special kind of talent you only see come along once a decennium. If you're lucky."

- Eric van Domburg Scipio of the Netherland's Haven Magazine

Dave Tate’s dynamic contemporary folk songwriting combines intimate finger-picked acoustic guitar, passionate vocals, and a myriad of poetic imagery to show how strong quiet can be. For the past ten years Dave Tate has been performing throughout the western states. A native of the red rock desert of Zion National Park, UT Tate’s music reflects the natural vast beauty of his homeland.

Tate started out playing in groups in Utah and Arizona doubling as a frontman on guitar and as a bassist. In 2000 Tate moved to Salt Lake City, UT where he began performing as a solo artist. After establishing a strong presence in the Salt Lake music scene, and recording two records. Tate turned his attention back to developing his craft and began studying classical voice. Over the next three years Tate held leading roles in several operas developing the range of his instrument. During that time Tate recorded four records, only one of which was released.

Tate’s persistence in refining his craft paid off. In 2006 Tate released The Solitude of Here, which CDBaby called “By far the most grabbing male folk album we’ve seen in months.” The album also received stunning press from the Netherlands. Folk Forum raved, “This masterpiece is worthy of a place in the singer/songwriter Hall of Fame,” and “You rarely come across a CD of such exquisite quality that you are entirely enthralled by it.” Encouraged by increasing interest, Tate uprooted moving to Portland, Oregon, where he finished his second self produced solo LP Home is in the Stars. Tate than returned to Salt Lake City as a solo artist, the front man of the group Dave Tate Music and in an acoustic duo. Tate built on the foundation he had started and once again established himself as a performing artist.

In January of 2007 Tate met Swedish songwriter Victoria Lagerström. Soon after meeting the two were married, recorded their first duo record The Same Heart (2007) and began to perform as a duo in the US. After living in Austin, Texas in 2007 and a embarking on a successful tour to the Netherlands, the duo returned to Tate’s southern Utah home to write and record their next duo CD. Tate and Lagerström now perform locally in Utah as well as touring nationally.

  • Return of the great songwriter
    author: Dean Powell

This CD is in my player almost without exception, I love the intimate breathy quality he gets with his voice and also the rich full one. Seldom have I heard such emotionally moving songs. His lyrics are incredibly insightful as well. This is worth picking up. It's the best CD I've heard in years.

  • He clearly articulates the field of folk/rock music
    author: Becky Foster

Not only are his lyrics amazing, guitar ability outstanding, and voice uncomparable, his charm captivates his audience as well. This is one of my favorite cd's to listen to whether I'm hanging out with friends, driving in my car, or relaxing. Truly, Dave's music sets the mood for about any occasion.
