The original music on this CD was born from the idea of a rock symphony written for the guitar. All guitars and only guitars.
It blends elements of classical music with progressive rock and blues. Intricate guitar layers are woven together in a way that is both intimate and explosive.
The music ranges from delicate acoustic fingering to grinding blues, and the heavier grooves reach back to the Texas rock of Dave's musical beginnings.
He wrote music and played lead guitar for Josefus, a heavy psych band from Texas in the era of the 13th Floor Elevators and early ZZ Top. Bootleg and legitimate re-issues of the Josefus albums have continued to appear on various labels. Akarma released the first Josefus box set, a three-disc package, in 2003.
Dave's writing and playing have come miles from the original Josefus sound. His innovative blend of acoustic and electric guitars is at times haunting and dreamlike, but the music still has his distinctive energy and power.

great guitarist shows his versatility

The tasteful, simple packaging belies the quality of the music contained in this cd. We are treated to 4 Christmas carols like you've never heard them before, just Dave and his guitars. Then come 4 advance tracks to Mitchell's upcoming release "Without Good-Bye." These tracks show the years of experience and eloquence that the guitarist has garnered since the glory days of Josefus and "Dead Man." The tracks, Christmas tunes included, consist of only Mitchell and his guitars overdubbed to an exquisite flavor. The songs are gorgeously textured, but never at the expence of the fire in Mitchelll's playing. This cd is highly recommended for a holiday treat and likewise as a teaser for those of us anxiously awaiting Mitchell's Guitar Orchestra release "Without Good-Bye." For fans of Josefus this is a must. For those unfamiliar with that wonderful Texas psych bands recordings this is a great way to be introduced to a truly creative guitarist. At this price it is an unbelievable bargain. Make sure you add this cd to your collection. You won't regret it.
