notes
Fans of the solo acoustic 12-string guitar will find much to like on City and Tree with its distinctive rhythms, strong melodic sense, and affinity for exploration. Drawing on the experience of performing in a variety of musical settings from folk to classic rock, jazz to classical, Dave has distilled many of these diverse influences into one consistent performance. As a result, this collection of original fingerstyle guitar instrumentals (with 2 vocals for balance) was described by The Victory Music Folk & Jazz Review as having "broad soundscapes and towering structures of harmonics . . . handled aptly with finesse and a sense of grace."
Guitar Player Magazine has described Cindy the Cat (track 3) as "the best example of Fritz's range of styles, sweeping through a series of moods that develops much like a good story", and Bay Area Musician Magazine has called City and Tree "an impressive debut from an accomplished technician and composer."

Dave's Comment: "The 12-string guitar offers an amazing potential for the expression of ideas and emotions with its sounds, textures, and harmonic combinations. I look forward to sharing the thoughts contained in the music of City and Tree with you, such as the unexpected appreciation of being caught outdoors in a rain shower, the illusion of freedom provided by procrastination, the humorous recognition of life's absurdities, and the profound simplicity of love."
City and Tree by Dave Fritz is highly recommended if you like Leo Kottke, Peter Lang, John Fahey, Richard Gilewitz, Adrian Legg, etc.
