Who is Datafolk ?
DF (his friends say "def" ), the scarecrow : he was born in a field located between Normandy and Paris. He made his own guitar at 9 years old, and rapidly became a virtuoso of this instrument. His first real guitar was given to him by Fred and Jean-Yves during a memorable picnic. Today he is the leader of Datafolk.
Jean Yves Le Porcher : 35 years old, born in Rouen. 1979 : Spends all his Wednesdays building cabins in the forest and the month of August harvesting. The fair came to town : he spends his time in front of the speakers of the rides and discovers the "huge sound", henceforth standard, of Disco and of Funk. 1993: buys his first sampler and starts his own design agency. Today he is a composer and designer
Fred Bargain : 26 years old, born in Paris. 1984 : first computer and first piano lessons, but chooses first of all to express himself with his father's super 8 camera. 1990-92 regular stays in the USA : develops a love of American productions. Folk, Pop.in music ; science-fiction and horror in movies. Today he is a composer and director.
Datafolk is a voluntary clean and simple sound, based on acoustic guitars backed up by House-based electronic rhythm. Pop songs with sun-drenched melodies and a "low tech" style anchored in its time without nostalgia, if it isn't for the words of Euston Jones coming from folk tradition
Datafolk, the ideal weekend soundtrack. From cleaning green beans with friends to the irresistible desire to have a last dance before going to bed.

a heady blend of folk guitars and house beats, crowned with a dose of pure pop
author: Billboard august 02 2003RURAL RHYTHMS: "Brand New Harvest" , the debut album from French duo Datafolk, is a heady blend of folk guitars and house beats, crowned with a dose of pure pop in a similar vein to Madonna's "Music" album. "We were somewhat taken aback when we heard her album, as we'd already written a few of our tunes," says Jean-Yves Le Porcher, one-half of Datafolk alongside Fred Bargain. "But although the basic ingredients of our music may have much in common with the approach of her producer Mirwais, our sound is a lot warmer. It's more Chicago house than '80s cold wave." "Brand New Harvest" consists of nine summery pop songs and four punchy instrumentals, marked by a distinctly rural spin—represented by their scarecrow mascot—that sets them apart from the crowd.
