notes
Darryl Tookes has come full circle, formed a new band and recorded a new CD, "Hieros Gamos." Rodolfo Zuniga on drums, Rolando Grooscors on acoustic guitar, Brian MacDougal on upright bass and Tookes on Fender Rhodes and vocals.
"Hieros Gamos" which translates Sacred Marriage in English, is a 14-song set of new songs written by Tookes. Live performances of great musicians captured on CD, playing original music with absolute abandon and complete command. Poetry in motion,
“Hieros Gamos” was recorded flawlessly by Grammy winning engineer, Felipe Tichauer in Pro Tools HD.
Guest appearances by Longineu Parsons on Trumpet, Recorder and Flute, Johnny James on soprano and alto sax, and Joseph Joubert on piano and as arranger for string quartet all contribute to the eclectic sound of this sweet CD.
Mixed by Eric Schilling and Mastered by Bob Katz, both multiple Grammy winners, “Hieros Gamos” is the perfect listening experience. For Tookes, the band, it is the beginning of their musical journey together. The Sacred Marriage of sensual and spiritual.

Full of calm which gives it power and a serious pulse. Clarity like the clarity
author: MarciaJourney to the Hieros is full of calm which gives it power and a serious pulse. And clarity...like the clarity of the Caribbean ocean where you can see right to the bottom. A soul in harmony a world to carry on. How you have managed to place these lyrics on this rhythm...this pulse and tell your stories is pretty sneaky. (-: it's got an instant appeal cause it's pure and true. Checking out the way you effortlessly relate to air....I’ve heard your voice quality change several times, not to mention octaves. this music feels so natural. It’s as though I’ve heard it before. When a great musician plays from the soul, it resonates with people on so many levels. it's those chords and i can hear a whole bunch of classical references. Now the band's into this nice easy swing. What are these vocalizations in wrong when i walked out on you? got a very Brazilian feel...an openness and brightness. There’s an awful lot going on here. lush lush harmonies on no way...and more Brazilian swing. Listen listen listen...voices and flute with the same pulse. That relationship with air again. These strings playing the vocal line and fluttering. Okay, that was the introduction of the strings. If i were painting the strings on measure my life around you, i would depict them as sunlight pouring in. i hear, see and feel just where you’re going, where you are. Yeah, Europe...to a market where the watchword is quality. This is not some economic endeavor...this is art, that's untainted by producers looking to make a quick buck on the flavor of the moment. This music is timeless because it's coming from the soul. It seems to me that you have found the elusive path between yin and yang and this music is the product. One blade of grass..one summer day...there's a saying that there's an angel over each blade of grass and the angel is whispering...grow, grow. you’ve obviously been talking to angels...and you’re a great translator.
Darryl is authernticity in its purest form, with his voice and poetic lyrics
author: SharonIn a world today where quality has been put a side, and the call for excellence has been forgotten, Darryl Tookes has given us a sense of restoration for these vital characteristics. He is without a doubt "The Messenger for the Millenium". He is the profound messenger that uses his voice as a vessel to reach our hearts. "Well Done!!!!!!!
