notes
Since self-releasing his CD, "Waiting For The Black Drop", in May of 2007, Philadelphia singer/songwriter Darren Keith
has had his songs in rotation in every STARBUCKS location in the country as well as headlining shows at great venues like PUCK and THE LIVING ROOM in NYC. Amazingly, this has all come his way without a record label...or even a bio! It just illustrates how good the music is.
“Darren Keith’s music hooks you from the first sample but doesn’t ring of commercialism…When it comes to vocal comparisons, the name-dropping is impressive: Chris Issak, Jeff Buckley, Randy Newman, Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Van Morrison, and Elvis Costello…his music is not imitation but innovation.”

"Darren Keith's album was a complete surprise, a package of great songs with first rate production...it reminded me of Daniel Lanois and Ron Sexsmith. I was so impressed"

“For the breadth of it’s humanity, creative musicianship, and soul stirring vocals, Darren Keith’s WAITING FOR THE BLACK DROP is fast becoming one of my all-time favorite CDs.
He somehow manages to mix lyric sensitivity with abundant imagination and mind-bending intellect, churning out melodic masterpieces that you want to hear over and over again. I can only compare his unique style to Tom Waits, restless and unrelenting, waiting for the world to stop and listen. All bets are, they will.”

Singer/Songwriter
At this point, some of the details have been lost to a bad memory, but a significant amount of Darren Keith's "Waiting For The Black Drop" was written in a small back room with a broken ankle, quite possibly while on pain-killers, most likely late at night suffering from insomnia, and definitely with 2 cats wandering in and out, one of which always wanted to sing harmony.

Another terrific find from the music goldmine that is MySpace
author: Laurie McCabeI knew I would like some of the songs on this CD because I'd heard them on Darren Keith's MySpace page, but I was very pleasantly surprised to like virtually EVERY song! I especially like Best Year of My Life, Precious Thing, and Last Chance We Get. If you like Jim Bianco (and if not, why not?!), you'll enjoy Darren Keith. I really like this CD.
