notes

Dan Zanes and Friends first family CD since 2004’s Grammy nominated House Party is a new frontier in 21st century all-ages family social music! This 17 song collection includes soulful performances by fine and familiar friends Barbara Brousal, the Rubí Theater Company, and Rankin’ Don aka Father Goose.

The CD comes in our most elaborate package yet—a full-color four-panel foldout jacket with a 28-page booklet of lyrics, chords, and wild new Donald Saaf artwork. Catch That Train! features the songs “Catch That Train!” (of course) and “Let’s Shake” as seen on Playhouse Disney.

love the cd. dan u have a great voice and a gift for songwriting.

  • A two-song album comment.
    author: Paul Yuellig

As a songwriter, I say everything is the song, itself. But, sometimes it's the arrangement. Catch That Train is one of those songs. While it's just a 3-chord ditty, the descending bassline/chord progression in the horn solo combined with the 5ths, 4ths and 9ths in the melody gives it just what it needs - sweet harmonics, opening the song up as the blossom of a flower does, to expand it into a thing of musical beauty. I sound like I'm overstating, but I'm not...just listen to it closer. Moonlit Town reminds me of a certain Halloween night with my brother when I was 11 and I'm now 59. We were sitting near our house watching the moon and talking...it's crystal clear to this day. So, I love that song. Evoking feelings in others...that's the hope of a songwriter.

  • So glad to meet you finally, Dan Zanes!

From the opening chords of Catch That Train (title song), we immediately felt a kindred glee for DZ's music, and his friends...now we know why our great-niece'n-nephew are such fans...thanks!

Our daughter loves this CD. All of us dance in our seats as we are driving down the road. We are learning new carseat dance moves from our 2 year old! It's definitely a must-have!

  • Great

I was a fan of Dan since the Del Fuegos days. I highly recommend this album, and he puts on a great live show too

  • Fun for kids and adults both

Has a nice blues flavor, catchy songs that'll have you stomping your feet, kids jumpin and hollerin, fun stuff.

Uplifting, and good fun for children of all ages.

  • Didn't Know it was a Childrens Album
    author: Huffsound

I found out this is a childrens album by reading the reviews. I was just enjoying the uniqueness of it. Reminds me of the Grateful Dead only this is good and fun.

  • Great Album

Fantastic Album. We rate this album as one of this year's best alongside The View by David Buckingham and Un Momento en el Sonido by Vicente Amigo

  • This is my favorite CD of all the Dan Zanes CDs!
author: Bryce Morales 5 yrs. old

I'm a really big fan of Dan and his friends. I've been to three of his concerts. My favorite songs are Country Life and I Don't Want Your Millions Mister. My friend Julia and my cousin Allie and I really love to sing along with all of the songs in the back of our car. We listen to this CD over and over and over again.

  • Another inspiring collection
    author: Rutledge Family

We have once again enjoyed listening to and learning the songs performed by Dan Zanes and Friends, and this latest CD is as great as the previous ones. Not only are the CDs a source of ongoing entertainment and inspiration, but the Saaf artwork which graces the CD covers is wonderfully charming.

  • Add it to your Dan Zanes Collection ...
    author: Kate

Not my absolute favorite Dan Zanes (that would have to be House Party or Rocketship Beach), but it's good listenin' -- and this world can always use more adult-friendly kid music! Plus you can't beat a kids' music CD with the Kronos Quartet as guest artists! Love that.

  • Awesome!

We're in love with this cd! We have a hard time getting past Catch that Train and Let's Shake because the kids just want to listen to those over and over. Loch Lomond with Natalie Merchant is incredible. We were so excited to see Pata, Pata on there. We feel enriched and thrilled by Dan Zanes' music.

  • Way better service than I could have dreamed!
    author: Kim Rangel

Another outstanding CD from Dan Zanes! Eclectic mix of musical genres of which my 19-month old daughter cannot seem to ever get enough! The service from CD Baby was way above and beyond what any other online proprietor has ever given! We received our CD two days before we expected it, in superb condition, and the note contained therein was the most adorable, hilarious thing I could imagine! Thanks, Dan Zanes, and thanks, CD Baby!!!

  • The Greatest Children's CD!
    author: Amanda and Lucy

This is the greatest CD in the children's market! I am a nanny for Lucy (18 mo.) and we listen to A LOT of CDs, but none as much as Catch That Train. We love all of the Dan Zanes' collection. In fact, if you ask Lucy what CD she wants to listen to, she always says "Dan". So take Lucy's advice and listen to Dan Zanes' collection, but most definitly listen to Catch That Train!

  • Where's this guy been all my life?
    author: Lauri

This guy rocks! I've just recently encountered Dan Zanes through watching Playhouse Disney and I'll admit I'm already a huge fan. His songs on this cd are infinitely playable. Father Goose is a riot and by far, my favorite song has to be "Moonlit Town." Can't wait to play it around Halloween.

  • another great cd!!!
    author: michelle

another great cd from the master of kid music parents don't mind hearing over and over and over and over and over - thanks dan!!

  • Another excellent experience
    author: Mark Laboe

Another outstanding Dan Zanes CD with ready to play songs to sing with the kids!

  • This CD rocks.

Another excellent CD from Dan Zanes and friends. We've had it about a week and my kids already know the track numbers of their favorites. The Blind Boys of Alabama are a great addition. Great car music. We're confessed Dan Zanes junkies, but he just keeps putting out fantastic family music that all of us can enjoy together. This is the kind of real, quality music we want our kids exposed to.

  • Dan and Friends do it again!
    author: JEStanek

Dan Zanes and Friends do it again. Another wonderful discfull of homemade music that is a regular Dance Party Soundtrack. The mix of tunes, comedy routines and the artwork by Donald Saaf are great. The liner notes are wonderful and give a perspective on where the songs came from and include the chords so you can play along. I heartily recommend adding this to your Dan Zanes collection.

  • my daughter started dancing right away.
    author: Robin

my daughter started dancing right away. I decided to take it to her school on a rainy day so the teachers could play it for the kids instead of one of the typical kiddie recordings they have there. I had to buy another one for us at home.

  • Awesome
    author: Kelly

Classic, funky, catchy, and adult friendly (as always).

  • Wow & Wow again!
    author: Heather Fowler-Wechter

This CD keeps up the Dan Zanes tradition of excellence. I had preordered the CD based on his others and was so excited to receive it! My 5 & 6 year old both had friends over and we jammed and danced through this CD twice. My one year old enjoyed just bouncing to the music. This CD has a country twang to it, but is appealing to non country listeners also. Great for kids and adults that love them!

  • consistently good stuff!
    author: Erika

Dan Zanes and Friends continue their great work producing music for kids AND their parents. Father Goose is as charming as ever, Barbara Brousal contributes one of her reliably good songs in Spanish, and the Blind Boys of Alabama's excellent version of "Welcome Table" is moving. I'm not as in love with this album as I am with some of Zanes' earlier ones -- except for "Welcome Table," none of the songs have really grabbed me yet, and I don't find myself singing along. I'm sure this will change, though, after listening to it more.

  • excellent kids cd that parents don't mind listening to!
