A perfect meeting of the obvious and the subtle, the coarse and the silky, the warm and the rugged. Female, country-tinged, folk-based pop, unlike the cliches, sparkles through this album. Taking bits of bluesy ache, the 70s folk rock tradition, Americana and plenty of other little nuggets of goodness, she's created a lush composite that occasionally echoes Bonnie Raitt, Jonatha Brooke, Shawn Colvin, and Patti Griffin, among others, but pushes ahead with a stylistic mix that's too elusive for simple descriptions, too speckled with ambivalence to be summed up in a few words. Every track is a volume in itself. -CD BABY
Danya River was recently voted Boulder, Colorado's 'Best Artist' (2003 Boulder Folk-n-Rock Awards). She tours nationally and in Europe and has opened shows for Shawn Colvin, Melissa Ferrick, Matt Nathanson and Sloan Wainwright.
"[Danya] kept us entranced in a miasmic mixture of weaving guitar and sensual vocals...no unnecessary words, nothing missing from the chords. Incredible guitar playing, her voice was exquisite... I'm at a loss of words. Exquisite... Fascinating... Beautiful. What else is there to say?"
- from the tour journal of Maryland's rock duo, Ilyaimy
On "Bone by Bone," sounds reminiscent of Tom Waits, Jonatha Brooke and Norah Jones conjoin with unpredictable arrangements, skillful junk percussion, crafty evocative writing and a cello-smooth voice.

This 5 song CD will leave you wanting more..........Each song is a journey within its self and you will willingly go along. Stir My Honey and Excalibur are outstanding and you will find yourself going Fishing just to go Fishing.....This is one of the best CD's I've purchased in a long time. More amazing content in these 5 songs than most artists dream about having in 10 songs.
Only 5 songs but enough to showcase a talented versatile performer
author: Steve LyallTook a punt on this from reviews on CD baby. Didn't really know what to expect but it does take you on a musical mini journey - each track is totally different in style, composition and feel. To me, some vocal similarities in places to Joan Osbourne on her 'Relish' album. Great voice, songs and performance.

A few of the best songs you will ever hear...
author: Mark HayesOK, first, I love Danya River and have loved her since seeing her in concert a couple summers ago. Excalibur is THE most romantic song ever performed - period. Her delivery is authentic. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. Now Bone By Bone - anyone who ever needed to be there for a family member while another one is dying can relate. It is gut wrenching and real. Buy this CD! It will not disappoint. -MH
a mix of sensuous...dreamy...silken vocals... funky rhythms and intelligent song
author: Les ReynoldsDanya River's Bone by Bone is a wonderful mix of the sensuous and sexy, dreamy, philosophical and real life drama centered around her silken vocals, a sometimes odd choice of instruments, funky rhythms, and intelligent songwriting. In just five tunes, this artist takes you on a journey you'll never forget--one you'll want to repeat many times over.
Not bad if you like things that are really good!
author: DWow, goodness me. Every time I hear the beginning of fishing my body goes into recognition of joy. If this cd was a pill it would be Zoloft, curing depression around the nation. I'm a little bias because I think the singer is a betty but I know there is greatness in these songs. I need to go listen now....

very warm and gentle sounding cd that is perfect for long walks and reflecting moments. Definetely one to treasure and to pass along to a great friend. Warm recommendation
Down to earth
Danya sings with such feeling, telling a story in every song. This CD is gritty, sensual, and down to earth--wonderful!
Original sounds
author: AlmafuerteJust bought this CD because the recommendation on CD Baby triggered me..... after this, I have many times enjoyed the beautiful voice, original songwriting and instruments used by this thrilling woman. She stirs my honey :)
a sunflower poking out from a field of grasses
author: Philip NolanThis CD is both very good and not so good. Of course - the lyrics, the harmonies, the songs themself - and of course Danya's singing; all wonderful. The disappointment lies in the fact that there isn't more of it. I suppose I could consider moving to Boulder in order to catch some local performances of an artist that now ranks up there with Jonatha Brooke, Alice Peacock, Amanda Marshall, and Jennifer Kimball.
These songs are the heat in flame
author: Drew HetzelThe stories she tells, the stories! "Excalibur" gave me tingles all over, and all the songs possess the strength of literary form to stand on their own without the music; with the music, they are breathtaking, inspirationational and should be given to the world. She's a national treasure.
Like a fine wine, Danya's recordings get better every time.
author: JCDanya is one of the best unsigned artists I've heard. Not to mention she's a great person as well. Keep up the fantastic creativity!
Songs are mesmerizing
author: LoriThis is a *wonderful* CD!! My only complaint--it's not longer. The songs are very engaging and stay with you long after the last note sounds. The lyrics are tremendous too. Bone by Bone is so poignant--the mental picture it sketches is incredibly moving. Can't wait to hear more from this extremely gifted artist!
This is great stuff
author: TyeveThe comparison to other artists on the CD Baby page do not do this EP justice. This is really good stuff. Great songwriting, too. There's a lot of music out there, but I'd recommend this to anyone. Don't miss it.
Bone by Bone is one of my favorites.
author: Justin RezzonicoI love Danya’s first album and her second is even better. I listen to it almost daily and sometimes several times. It’s the kind that makes you hit repeat like some kinda drug. Her music takes you to a beautiful place and leaves you feeling great. All of the comparisons to other great artists are certainly well deserved but Danya is also unique. She’s great in her own right and someday artists will be compared to her.
AESTHETIC
author: KURT VIT DOESN'T GET ANYMORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THIS !
heart wrenchingly beautiful again
author: LianeAfter waiting too long for the follow up to Within Without this EP is everything you could hope for, soaring heart wrenching vocals that leave you wanting more.
An impressive achievement.
author: J.W. JohnsonDanya River is an artist to watch. Her new EP is an impressive achievement.

Danya River has written songs that will stay with you, remind you why you love
author: BradThough not able to hear the entire CD yet, the song Excalibur is worth the price of an entire collection. It haunts me in a great way. The kind I play over and over. My love and respect for great songwriting is explained to friends by a song like Excalibur. Danya says in the first line, I will give my Excalibur. She is saying she will give her heart and soul for this person, a king, a warrior. I look forward to more enjoyable listening from an accomplished songwriter.
Beautiful
author: VeraOooh, Danya continues to astound. She has evolved musically from her first album, and is shaking things up in a wonderful way. The title track, Bone By Bone, is a tear jerker, while at the same time containing a catchy hook that you find yourself singing randomly for a good week after listening. I regret moving far away from Danya and no longer having the priviledge of seeing her live, but this album was a lovely peek at how her music is growing. This girl is going to be famous. Buy two copies and give one as a gift (I did). Your friends will love it.
sensual, soulful, intriguing, chocolate syrup with 10 guitars and mixing emotion
author: Luke, Sire, Steve, Vanette, Audra, StephanieLUKE: sensual, she sounds sensual SIRE: Soulful. Like smokey blues folk music STEVE: It sounds like she is playing 10 guitars VANETTE: It makes me feel like I am sitting in a coffee house AUDRA: Her voice is smooth like chocolate syrup STEPHANIE: She makes me think of Ani DiFranco but she is easier on the words. I mean the words are intriguing like Ani D.-but more poetic NAN: She does a good job of, ummm, mixing emotions. It's happy and uplifting, romantic and mellow, and sad. I like that I keep wanting to hear the next line. I was listening to the words, but I usually only listen to the music.
