Dann Glenn
Symphony No. 2
(Variations on a Dream)
This work is the second in a series of six symphonies composed by Glenn. All of his symphonies have a specific subject matter, and No. 2 is drenched in exotic Asian influence, to say the least.
As a composer Glenn was deeply moved by the great Charles Ives. This becomes apparent when listening to Glenn's music, as he has a penchant for using subtle dissonance, thereby moving out of harmonically "safe" zones. Ultimately this results in breathtakingly beautiful sonic textures, that touch body, mind and spirit.
Though Dann Glenn is a renowned jazz/rock guitarist not to mention a published novelist, (Almost A Proverb) his modern orchestral music is quite unique and stands alone on its own merit. Some of Glenn's symphonies are tonal while others are atonal, but one thing they all have in common is their spacial, lush beauty.

Variations on a Dream
author: Paul LandersIt's good to know Charles Ives had such an impact on modern day composers. This music is wonderful.
The Second Symphony
author: JasonI saw Dann in concert a few years ago but had no idea he also composed classical music. His music is very complex, but never loses its humanity. I love the way Glenn isn't afraid to colour outside the lines. Predictable music bores me, so I have a tendency to seek out artists that push the envelope. DG is absolutely this kind of composer.
Symphony No. 2
author: Ken DesmondAmazing stuff. Vincent is my favorite movement, but it's all really good. Dann Glenn has a very interesting mind.
