notes
Fate Said Nevermind is the follow-up to Once Was Red, Dan May's critically acclaimed debut album. Featuring an eclectic mixture of swampy Louisiana guitar licks, bluesy piano, and the driving rhythm guitar which is the trademark of the band. Painted over this lush tapestry are the layered vocal harmonies that make the music so appealing and truly special. Elements of Americana Roots, Folk, Country, Rock, Jazz and Pop make this music hard to label, but so easy to love.
Singer-songwriter Dan May's career path has taken more twists and turns than a corkscrew in a hurricane. He's worked as a grave-digger, television cameraman, short-order cook, nuclear missile security guard, sold clothing in a big and tall men's store, driven an ice cream truck, delivered furniture, wrote feature stories for a daily newspaper, unloaded trucks at an amusement park, and labored in a greenhouse. All before the age of 25.
Then, while studying music composition in college, he inadvertently stumbled into an opera career that would see him singing with opera companies across the U.S. and Canada, and leaving a promising future as a singer-songwriter behind.
Cut to 15 years later, and a vocal-chord surgery that left him no longer able to meet the demands of opera. Talk about a blessing in disguise. He is now back where he belongs, writing and performing his own songs, delivered in a voice that is as unique as it is interesting.

Fantastic songs and emotion provoking lyrics. Another great CD Dan!
Dan is great.
author: David BakerDan May is the best thing to come along in many years. Terrific songs and voice. The band backing him is one of the best I have heard. Also ordered Once Was Red and The Long Road Home, both are great.
Fate Said Nevermind
author: CarolI first discovered Dan on MySpace, and to be honest, had been wondering how I would find new artists if I was always listening to my iPod. Then, fate stepped in and Dan sent me a link to his page. His music literally soothes my soul, speaks to your heart, and mellows your world. My favorites on this CD are (of course) Fate Said Nevermind (how achingly true those lyrics are for me) Cheyenne, Sister Rain, Memphis Rain, and Boneyard. From his other CD's, my favorite is That One Song. Once again, his lyrics speak to your soul. What a wonderful find for me, one I will be eternally grateful for!!!! I just know that huge success is right around the corner for him!

Magical
author: ClaudiaThe CD is magically heartbreakingly wonderful! From slow songs like "Chayenne" to mid-tempo beats like "That one song" or the driven and cool "The fish that got away" - you must love this album. It took a long time for an artist to get me so addicted. Wonderful lyrics and very passionate, poetic harmonies... it's magic.

Dan's the Man
author: Shaun SmithI drove across the country to listen to these songs live. Usually it takes a long time to get into the groove with songs, but Dan and his band hit the mark straight away. Castaway has a lovely introduction, and One More Time made me cry. Whether you're a lyrics or music person, or maybe even both, you'll enjoy the compilations on this CD. Dan's unique voice and clever wit are on the next level, and it's only going to get better in subsequent CDs!
Fate Said Nevermind

author: Michael S. MonetteDan May's music is infectious and "Fate Said Nevermind" is no exception. From the bright, high energy of "That One Song" to the beautiful lyrics and harmony of "One More Time" you will go through every emotion possible. I received my copy of "Fate Said Nevermind" from CDBaby a few days ago, and haven't been able to put it down. If this CD isn't in your music collection...it needs to be!!

Wow.
author: MeaghanI was coincidentally introduced to Dan May's music and was immediately drawn to it. Once I heard his "Fate Said Nevermind" album I could not stop listening! I've taken it everywhere with me and shown everyone I know--it really is music that has something for everyone. All the songs are fabulous, but the very last track, "One More Time," blew me away. There I was, innocently listening and enjoying, when the last song came on. The next thing I knew I was sobbing because it was so beautiful and relatable. Dan's music has a perfect balance of melody, lyrics, harmony, and accompaniment. I sincerely recommend Dan May's music a thousand times over!! I feel very fortunate to have heard it myself.
Dan May hits another home run
author: Bob BraeunigWow! …and I thought “Once Was Red” was fantastic; I think I like this CD even more. Dan May is a gifted artist who deserves serious attention. Every song is delivered with great emotion in a voice that is second to none. “Fate Said Nevermind” is a terrific CD that includes songs for every mood and occasion. Dan also puts on a great show if you get the chance to see him live.
Great
author: Dave HahnAs a Singer/Songwriter I consider myself a peer to most out there... Not Dan May. A man who has seemingly seen most of the best and worst of life. He portrays it beautifully through his strong but often gritty vocals. The songs are some of the most eloquently stated poetry I've heard. Dan's music is very select. One gets the impression that he has much more to say, but reserves his recordings for only the best and most important things of his life.
3 of the best cds I've purchased in a long time!!!
author: Madonna OrgeronTHIS is music like music is meant to be!!! Great voice! Great lyrics! Great all around cds. These are 3 of the best cds that I've purchased in a long time. NOW, I'm waiting on a chance to attend a concert!!

Soulful, world weary and world wise
author: BrendanDan stumbled upon me on Myspace and I bought FATE SAID NEVERMIND recently after having the title song get stuck in my head from his page. I am so glad!!! From the wonderful title track, the delicate "Cheyenne", the addictavely sing-a-longable "That One Song" and the graceful, haunting "Sister Rain". Dan's voice has so much warmth and texture and invites you in as he shares his world with you. A great addition to any collection!!!
Fate Said Nevermind............Dan May is amazing
author: BarbI met Dan on Myspace and listened to some of his songs there and they hit me like a ton of bricks & so deep into my soul that I knew I had to get his CD. I asked Dan where I could get one and he hook'd me up with CDBaby.....they are pretty cool there and make the experience wonderful for you when you order from them. Fate Said Nevermind, Shades of Grey & Sister Rain are three remarkable songs on the CD that seem to be playing all the time in my brain. What Dan's voice can do with words is just wonderful and I can't say enough about his music. There is no doubt that you just have to listen, you will be hooked. You will feel everyword & cord and you will have to share his music with everyone you know
The Best Music
author: WillowThank you Dan, I listen to both of the CDs every day. I can never get enough. All of my friends are starting to come over just to listen. Keep them coming.

I heard "Fate Said Nevermind" on the radio and instantly liked the singer's voice. After a minute or two, I realized how good the songwriting was. Thankfully, the radio station had a portion of its website devoted to its playlists and artists, so I went digging and found Dan May and his full-length album of the same name -- and same consistently high quality -- as the song that caught my attention. FSN is full of well-performed arrangements that hang back and let Dan's resonant baritone dominate. The producers vary the instrumental combinations and prominence from song to song, so it's the type of album you can play in its entirety without getting bored of the sound. There's no filler on this record and I enjoy all the songs, but if I had to pick some favorites, I'd go with the title cut, the earthy-sounding "Sister Rain" and the delicately played guitar tune "One More Time."

I have had the CD for roughly three months and I think there has only been a day or two that I did not listen to it. Thanks Dan!
It can't be said enough
author: NinureIt can't be said enough, listening to Dan May's music is a spirtual, uplifting experience. Even the saddest songs have an element of joy and triumph. If you already own his first two CDs "Roors and Wings" and "Once Was Red" you MUST have "Fate Said Nevermind" as well.
Music lovers of all genres will love "Fate Said Nevermind."
author: Jennifer WhiteThis CD is packed with touching lyrics, unforgettable melodies, and poignant observations. Dan is not only a wonderfully amazing songwriter/musician, but he also taps into the unsaid recesses of the human mind.
Love the CD, Dan has such a unique voice!!

Its a must-hear for people who like all types of music.
author: Fate Said NevermindDan May's music has a way of sticking to your soul and Fate Said Nevermind was no exception.
And i thought the first 2 discs were Great!!!
author: Brad ZerkelThis one tops them. Both the earlier works were fantastic also, but Dan has really reached his stride with this effort. Musically rich, and instrumentally always interesting with Lyrics that conjure images like the best Novel. I can NOT get enough of this disc. I don't remember the last time I listened to an album with a smile on my face throughout. You have got to Love a guy that can write a song with a twist that would otherwise be a "sad song".Listen to Fate said Nevermind...The Beautiful Cheyenne/ Sister Rain. Beautiful Harmonies, Beautiful Messages, Beautiful Imagery and Beautiful Production. This is one of those cases where My Space truly did it's job in hooking up an artist with an audience that probably otherwise wouldn't have heard him. As a Listener with a Massive collection of music I do not write 5 star reviews lightly, but this is a disc that truly deserves airplay and an Artist that deserves many Listeners!
Awesome follow up!
author: Liz MillerFate Said Nevermind is thoughful, inspred songwriting at it's richest. The subject matter of the songs is poignant and stirring. Each time I listen to this cd my favorite tune changes as there is a song for every mood. One More Time makes me cry. The Fish That Got Away makes me laugh. Sister Rain puts me in e reflective state...I thought there was no way to top Once Was Red. WRONG!!!!!!

Avoiding the sophomore jinx Dan produces another first class album.
author: DaveI am amazed by the depth of lyric content, quality of musicanship and blending of moods - moving, introspective, rocking, and throughout touching. Dan May's ability as a song writer, distinctive voice and musician are written in stone by this Fate Said Nevermind CD. Dan's live performances are so electric that his ongoing ability to put the same emotion, conviction and power on a CD amazes me and impresses me beyond words. I am in awe.
Always evolving into even more spectacular, never disappointing

Don't just buy one, buy several to share with family and friends!
Exquisite. Timeless.
author: MegI've said it before, I'll say it again: Dan May is one of the greatest things to ever happen to music. He delivered with Once Was Red and Fate Said Nevermind is no exception. The lyrics, the harmonies, the voice... Everything about this cd screams success. I've tried to pick a favorite and I've come to the conclusion that it's not possible; To give it 5 stars is almost an insult. Dan May has surpassed greatness with this one.
