notes

Hi, my name is Dada Vedaprajinananda but you can just call me Dada Veda.

I am teacher of yoga and meditation and a social worker as well as a singer-songwriter. I have been writing songs for the past five years and in my lyrics I blend spirituality, ecology and social justice themes.

In 2003 I put out the first edition of the CD "Brighter Than the Sun." These songs were remastered in 2006 and are now available here on CD Baby.

What are the songs like? They are simple acoustic-based songs. Some people say I sound like Bob Dylan. I don't think so, but I take that as a huge compliment. At a recent festival someone dubbed this music as "Country and Eastern."

Here is what New Renaissance Magazine had to say about the CD:

"From the opening title track Dada inspires us to look inside ourselves for answers. The simple peace of meditation and closeness to God is the central message. "He's right there inside of us, He's brighter than the sun," sings Dada in his cheery voice, like a favorite uncle."

"All the songs are upbeat and happy. They speak of hope, light, unity and better times ahead. Cynicism and phony sophistication dominate our tense and complex times. Dada, through his simplicity and charm, cuts through all that. His songs give us a mental break, and return us to an age of innocence."

"Dada's style is reminiscent of Pete Seeger or even Woody Guthrie. He is backed by acoustic guitars on all songs. On some of the up-tempo songs drum, bass and electric guitar give a folk-rock feel."

The appeal of Dada's songs lie in the familiarity and immediacy of the melodies and the message. Most of the songs are easy to learn. The lyrics and guitar chords are available on Dada's web-site www.dadaveda.com."

  • Essential for Transforming The World
    author: Marcus Bussey

Sing and songs are better than long philosophical treatises or laboured class lessons on the negative impact of so much our civilisation - it is better to sing and transform the self from the heart, after all this is where we dwell most of the time. As a classroom teacher dada's album is a real asset - the kids love it and I also feel the energy, hope and joy of his voice and the words are perfect affirmations of how to better approach life. Go for it!

  • If Bob Dylan was just starting out now, would he sound like this? Definetly wort
    author: Gary Levinson

An album relating songs of dedication, in a folksy / rocky way; when I first heard it, I said to my self: this is what Bob Dylan would sound like if he was starting out today! The lyrics are right on target with their concentration on humanistic themes (I mean after all, how many cars does one person need?), and the rythms are really catching: your foot will be tapping along! After listening to it, I was singing the songs to myself. I think the best (if i dare) song is "As the world spins around". I REALLY like "For everyone" also, and being a vegitarian myself, I could really relate to "I don't eat meat" I've been a professional music-journalist since 1993, having reviewed, and interviewed many of the most famous (Paul McCartney, Donavon, Al Stewart, Jean Michele Jarre; etc.). Since I've heard this album, I've been eagerly awaiting a follow up. Tell us Dada, when will it be?

  • Brighter than the sun

Dada Veda's album is inspiring and uplifting. His voice sounds like he is smiling through the songs, and the recording capture the spirit of his live performances which are always a lot of fun.
