notes
D1 was born in St. Louis, but was moved to Cali when he was a baby. He lives in Venice now. He grew up loving all music and sports. From the age of 9 he was writing and rapping, he never thought this would be his life’s direction. When he was 11, he was discovered by talent producer Chris Barnes. He performed with Irene Cara, Jim Belushi, Ryan Styles, Joel Murray, Clint Smith and Roger Clinton, President Clinton’s brother. D1 got a standing ovation. There was a whirlwind of offers from movie, TV and Warner’s record executive Rob Cavallo, and agent Marty Tudor. But he had to bow out, his heart was in sports.
He was a ranked basketball player with numerous scholarship offers. He put together the famed AAU traveling team Hype-Squad. His senior year he was diagnosed with kidney failure, cause unknown. This is when he started producing. Mostly bedridden for a year, he learned the basics of the Triton and MPC. But he had to give basketball one more try. He received a partial scholarship to prep MCI . He sat out most of the year due to his ongoing illness and a permanent hip injury. His senior project, a documentary and album of his music, was considered exemplary, and was used by the school as an example for future upcoming students working on their senior projects.
That same year he produced a demo for his Venice high school friend Conway. To show support for Conway they went to a Vegas talent show, but D1 was the one who got discovered by multi platinum executive producer and manager Damon Jones, (K-Ci and JoJo, Jon B, CeCe Peniston, the movie Basketball Realities) He then produced an album for Conway. This album convinced Motown Universal, and both were signed. On the new Motown album D1 produced the single “Monsta Flow”. The single dominated the air waves on the west coast. Monsta Flow shot to number 1 in Sweden and the top 10 in various European countries, The Sacramento Kings used the music portion from Monsta Flow for all of their home games that season. The Monsta Flow concept was then taken and used on the John Madden 2005 game.
D1 then had another single released to the airwaves called “Get Down” with artist Cairo. D1 has produced for Bad Azz, Young Soprano (who wrote and featured on Mack 10’s The Testimony) and UNI’s YO. He has also worked with Stacey Orrico. D1 has been called the producer’s producer. Like J Dilla, his personal favorite, he is known and respected by many producers but is not widely known to the public yet. In an interview with the producer J Classic, he stated that “D1 is the best young producer in the game, he’s a genius.”
Today D1 is spending time in the studio with close associate Tommy Costner who co- produced with Dr. Dre and EMINEM the multi platinum hit, The Real Slim Shady, Heat, with Dr. Dre and 50cent, and music for Master P’s movie I Got The Hookup.
This Hip Hop Halloween album came about when a friend noticed that there weren’t any Hip Hop Halloween albums out there. D1 put his scary talent to work conjuring up haunting melodies and fun upbeat ear candy. The result, 24 tracks of bangin Hollowed treats. The album is instrumental, so the tracks are open for all you mc’s. And parents don’t have to worry about what their kids will hear. There is something for everyone to enjoy on this album. And D1 says God bless to all you spirits!

I wish I was allowed to give it more stars! 5 doesn't do it!
author: Isabella (A.K.A. Beezleboobies)I'm Sooooo happy I found this CD!! This is the best Halloween music, EVAH! My favorites are "Poppin Plotergeist", "Club Dementia", and "U Must Die" (remix)! But my ALL TIME favorite is "Beezlebub Bounce". You figure out why! Hee hee hee. I just can't listen to it enough times. You HAVE to have this CD! Get it NOW before it gets famous so you can say you knew about it back then... when it was obscure!! $13 for gloating rights? Wayyyyy too cheap!
i dont usually dance, but....
author: indie radio dj(KXLU)/barista/artist/omar mohsinWhat can I say when you find something that doesnt make you think twice! This something is worth a million words, but has one distinctive sound and its this album. Seriously, I had no idea what I was getting my hands on or my ears more like it, into. Many people will say the same, but Im telling the truth. This is indie, and this man is pushing the boundries. He is effecting people as we speak, but then again I only know what I like and I only speak the truth....so do me a favor pass the word along....Every house and cave should have this bumping on HALLOWEEN!
Best thing since...
author: Chi-Town ShadowAbsolute genius! D1's Hip Hop Halloween Haunted House Party is the best thing to happen to Halloween in YEARS! As it's my favorite holiday, I always go all-out with my parties. Music is always a big concern because there just isn't anything new out there... Or at least there wasn't until NOW! This year is going to rock now that I have this CD to play! No more goofy, campy cheese! Can't wait! Is it October yet???
u know what it is
author: JoHnNyThis CD is necessary for everyone to have. First ever Halloween hip hop album that you've never heard anything like to bang in haunted houses, crazy Halloween parties, or even for your kids. By the looks of this album, Halloween might never be the same. D1 really knows how to set the vibe. Watch out for this crazy idea to blow up and buy a CD to own an original piece of history!
Halloween will never be tha same!!
author: Hip Hop ExpertHands down the best unknown producer I have ever heard. This album is full of dark bangers with a unique swing.D1 definetly has his a distict swagger, his sound is his and his only. This guy needs a deal! This album will scare you into liking hip hop again.
Great for the Kids
author: Preston RodriguezAs i was scrolling through the search engine of this site i was very impressed to find that there is finally a holloween album that i can buy my four year old that will allow me to introduce him to good hip hop music and enjoy the holiday spirit at the same time. With all of the ignorant rap music out these days it is a relief to have a cd that I can listen to in my car and play the music i grew up listening to for my son without having to worry about him hearing misogynistic and violent lyrics. I already bought a few for my kid and nephews. Thank you D1 for making my favorite holliday a Hip Hop holliday.
Halloween Bang Out
author: TankeThis album is one of the best halloween let alone instrumental albums I've heard. Briefly produced by D1, each song has a hip-hop, westcoast party flavor but at the same time has the listener cognisant of the horrors of holloween set off by the dark and creepy chords and sounds. This album is fit for anyone and everyone of any age. From little kids to big music heads this album is a must have. Feel his vibe and cop this shit, nothin but BD classics on this mufucka right here. First ever producer to do this shit, this history right here be a part of it, cop it, bump it, vibe wit it. Halloween will never be the same after D1 changed the game.
Next level shit!
author: BOBOThis album is fire. Anybody who thinks any thing less of it is ridiculous. D1 brings halloween fright with hip hop and creates a new level of music that no one else has yet to think of.With no lyrics and cussing to worry about the music is good for all ages. Im sure theres not one person that wont get a kick out of this album. BUY IT!!
Hell Yeah!!!!!
author: Hip HopYo... This is crazy!!! First time hearing this new D1 sound but Im more than impressed. To make a halloween album with 24 beats sounding eary and creepy yet still in the realms of hip hop is amazing. Really shows the diversity of the producer, and Im excited to hear more of his work. I speak for myself, everyone I work with, and every young up coming and established artist that gets a chance to hear this, when I say thank you for blessing us with this music to work with. Keep doing it big, see you at the top!
Dopest Shit Out There
author: AlexaThis shit definitely puts a whole new twist on a Halloween album. Nothin compares to it!! Honestly anybody with good taste in music and a love for true hip hop and original, creative beats would buy this album and listen to it anytime... before, during, and way after Halloween.
I want to show you something you've never seen before!
author: horridkittenEvery track on this album is perfectly rare and wholly thrilling! FINALLY! A Halloween album without even the coloratura of The Monster Mash! This album NEEDS to be heard by people like ourselves so that we can take our holiday BACK from the real villains, the Hallmark corp., and start really celebrating! Please take some time, yourself to explore the rich and voluminous offerings within. IMHO, tracks 6, 1, and 17 are the standouts! #6, “Nightmare On D's Street”, is my absolute favorite! It saunters along just like a black widow that happens to be armed to the fangs with something worse than venom, while #1, "Beelezbub Bounce" is an intricate latticework of electronic eeriness (Mr. Kruger would be very, VERY happy!). I’m also particularly in love with #17, “Spider Boogie” because it is just fun, fun, wicked FUN!! Then there is the utilization of the backwards-sounding pipe organ in #4, “Igor's Joint”! I never get tired of that effect. I hope this review helps you decide to purchase this CD and spread the word.
This album is FIRE
author: Justin CooperFinally some real production in the hip hop genre! Every track on this album is on point. An incredibly innovative album from D1, the first producer to ever drop a Halloween album, and he came hard making every cut memorable. Perfect album for all your halloween parties and all you mc's will be trying to rip these beats up. I guarantee that. COP THIS ALBUM!! Nothing but masterful beats. D1 is the best young producer in the game and he's about to blow up so get ready.
Dope!!
author: CarliThe beats are hot! This is perfect for Halloween. I've never heard anything like this before. Everybody should buy this album. A.S.A.P.
