notes

** Selected as 1of 5 "must see" performers in Singapore by Singapore Business Visitor, August 2005. **

"This native Cleveland rock 'n' roller combines soulful vocals, 30 years of guitar playing, cool harmonica riffs, and audience conducting skills, all to get everyone in the house jumping to the groove." - Singapore Business Visitor, August 2005

"Clevelanders Matthew 'Cadillac' Cooper and Curtis 'King' Kovach are blazing an R&B trail through Asia. There's a lowdown, nitty-gritty, boogie-woogie, honky-tonk vibe working its mojo from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Shanghai in China, thanks to two ramblin' blues guitarists from the Rock and Roll Capital of the World." - Christopher Evans, CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER

"If you're tired of same-same [cover] bands at bars proclaiming nightly live music, this Rock 'n' Roll band is a gourmet dish added to routine "boring meals ." - VIETNAM DISCOVERY, Jan 15, 2004

"He's a performer who thrives on innovation and experimentation... [The Curtis King Band] has moved from jazzy blues through picturesque soulful soundscapes to bare knuckle rock-and-roll and back again." - Saigon Inside Out (Feb 2006)

Featured on this CD is the classic line-up of The Curtis King Band - an 11-piece band, featuring blues man Curtis King (vocals, guitar and harmonica), Howard "Mr. Fingers" Rosser on guitar, and the "Mighty Mighty Horn Section" - Singapore's only 5-piece horn section! The band has been enjoying tremendous responses from local and international audiences. The band plays up-tempo, good-time music, including Chicago-style blues, funk, Motown, and even a bit of jazz.

The title "Caught With Our Pants Down" was chosen to describe how we feel about most of the tracks on this CD. Though we could have chosen tamer, cleaner versions, we opted for the "in-your-face" tracks. This CD is definitely not meant to imitate the clean, crisp, balanced, practiced sounds you might get in a recording studio. You'll hear lots of "bum" notes, squeaks, hisses, noise, and other relics of the good ol' days of live blues music, before computers (sadly) took over the music business. However, we also think you'll also hear some "inspired moments" that definitely don't come easily in the studio. The CD is intended to capture a real working blues band live, with all its nutty, unpredictable, hard-to-manage characters that call themselves musicians! Enjoy!

This CD made it to #1 on the Blues/Jazz Charts at HMV Singapore and Tower Records Singapore!!

The band sounds like their having a great time. The music is lively, it makes you want to move with the music. Because the recording was made in a club the sound quality, but overall I would recommend this CD

Whether or not you've been to Singapore's Crazy Elephant, this CD is worth a spin!! I find myself listening to it over and over... just as i did with the blues brothers and commitments cds!! It's rare to hear a 6+ piece horn section at work with well written horn parts!

  • Best enjoyed with a glass of ice-cold Tiger

Just like sitting at the bar at the Crazy Elephant in Singapore. Really conveys the atmosphere of a night watching and listening to the Curtis King Band down on Clarke Quay. Great fun.

  • The CD is dragging me to Singapore

Great music! I really want to visit Singapore now, after listening to the CD, to sit in the bar and listen to the amazing King and his band playing live!

  • Cool CD. Definitely live, fun, in-your-face blues.

Really enjoyed this CD - you can tell the band is having fun playing, and the audience is part of the show. You can almost imagine the scene, set in a small bar in Singapore, where you're walking down the street and hear "Soul Man" belting out from the bar. You walk in, and there's an 11 piece Blues Band, with a killer horn section, ripping the place up. Great!
