notes

By poetry the mind is aroused and from its music the finish is received.

This cd took many years, and many journeys into dreams, and observations of living life in those dreams.

I grew up in the midwest and listened to a variety of music styles, jazz, big band, motown, rock and roll ect. that is what got me started with listening to a broad genre of music styles. I took lessons on trumpet at first then was drawn to piano and organ. I always liked music with keys in it then one day i picked up a guitar and started playing. I taught myself with the help of keyboards and went from there, I listened to rock, folk rock, new wave, new age, pop, and techno pop, since my influences were keyboard oriented that was the styles that drew me in. While attending college ( studied philosophy and psychology) , I played in various clubs on campus and around town. also formed a band where I played keys, guitar and sang lead. Then went out on the road in the midwest for 8 years.

A move to Manhattan got me there just in time as the folk scene was evolving. After a series of gigs in the metro area, I concentrated more on writing and started collecting synthesizers then started another project (new age) to be released next spring.

So basically I have blended many styles of music to bring this cd into fruition. I am not drawn to one or two groups or musicians, there are songs out there that catch us by surprise and that is what I am drawn into, music that makes you day dream ,that lets you be your own guide, then comes up from behind and makes you think to what the meaning really is.

Life is like a waterfall, shimmering in the sunlight and glowing with rainbows, then ending in a pool of complete silence

  • Well worth a listen...

These songs have an edge, and the music a haunting quality. It works. I believe that those who want something more serious from a musician lyrically, should be very happy to own this CD.

I really enjoyed this CD! Curtis' music spans many emotions and encourages a full spectrum of thoughts. I sense from his lyrics that he has taken many journeys throughout his life. He has a remarkable ability of sharing his observations in both words and sounds. He challenges the listener to experience first hand the Voices Inside.

  • I Really liked It. Great Job

This CD is different, it has a touch of the late 70's rock, but is still different in a unexplained way. I personaly love music where you can feel the intensity, passion and emotion through the tone (voice) of the lyrics, and this guy's got it! Let's not forget that it also has great instrumentation to go along with these lyrics. I would love to hear my local radio station play this instead of the alternative crap that they have now. Great Job!!! I will definately be getting a copy of this.

  • Women seem especially drawn to these haunting, romantic lines.

Having known Curtis Heckwolf for some time and having worked with him on this project, one could not espect that I'd be totally unbiased about VOICES INSIDE. But let me tell you about one unexpected discovery I made: As the project took shape, I'd occasionally "test" elements of the recording for friends and almost without exception it was the females who would say something like "please let me know when this comes out; I've got to buy a copy." Is this folk music? Not exactly. But it's not rock or middle-of-the-road either. What this singer-songwriter provides us is hard to quantify, but it's as the man at the art museum says: "I may not know what it is, but I know what I like, and THIS I like!" VOICES INSIDE takes us to that inner depth we all feel, sometimes in the middle of the night, as we lie there, introspective, and wondering if what we did or said could have been done differently, as we wonder where life will be leading us tomorrow. There's a story-song, "Halfway There," which offers a sympathetic glimpse into the tragic life of a "working woman" in London. And "Step Into the Ring," which focuses on the frenetic pace of life we all seem to be drawn into these days. We've all been there, wondering, "am I the one?" or "What Are You After?" or "where are you, now that you've 'Gone Far Away?'" Let Curtis Heckwolf put your innermost thoughts into words and music. Give a listen to VOICES INSIDE.
