notes

Emily Curtis is "...a refreshingly original songwriter with a voice of gold and plenty of stories to tell in her, eclectic kind of way." - Rhythm and News Magazine

Curtis released her first CD, "RADIATE" last year. Her work is stamped with her singular viewpoint--authority coexists with wistfulness. Her lyrics are poetic, driven more by story than obvious hooks. This sense of the fresh and with little exposure to standard folk music and rock progressions, she doesn't go for the traditional musical phrases.

She gives us romanticism-with-an-edge in a Sheryl Crow reminiscent song where a man who drives her crazy is as predictable as "San Francisco Rain". In the ethereal song, "Tuscon or Tennessee", she gives a nod to soulful country, evoking road dust and lonely highways with sweet acoustic melodies mixing with meloncholy electric steel guitar. Her voice has many qualities--sultry in "Talk About Life", a sort of philosophical lullaby and as airy as a woodwind instrument in the impressionistic "Beneath and In Between". Produced by Curtis and bass player Jamal Ruhe, "Radiate" contains a multi-textured range of instruments and vocals with five guest players and back-up singers.

Curtis is currently living and performing in and around the New York City area.

  • Emily Curtis absolutely RADIATES on this CD!
    author: Mark Diorio

Funny that Emily Curtis is sometimes compared to Sheryl Crowe, because I can't really get into Sheryl's music but Love Emily Curtis. It's a shame this CD is out of print, because listening to her is a true pleasure, no matter what the song. A standout on this CD, "San Fransisco Rain", absolutely rocks, and you can still get to hear it on Emily's underground CD that can be found on her web-site, www.emilycurtis.com.
