notes

The Project:

Crossfade started as a project when we, guitarist Lars Hallbäck and keyboardist Richard Stenström, started writing songs together in 1999. We were later introduced to singer Göran Edman, through a mutual friend, and the three of us wrote the songs to be recorded on the album White on Blue.

The recording took a very long time since we decided to re-record all the backgrounds after they had teamed up with drummer Per Lindvall and his brother the bass player Sven Lindvall. The groove they introduced to the music was so inspiring that we recorded everything from the beginning.

After that, we spent a lot of time just recording the preproduction vocals and lyricist Eva Olson took on the job of writing the lyrics.

Eventually the final recording started. We spent a lot of time recording Görans vocal arrangements as well as everything else, as you can hear on the album, White on Blue.

We contacted percussionist Pablo Cepeda, who did the conga/bongo tracks.

Nina Inhammar recorded some background vocals and the horn section did their bit.

The horns being: Leif Lindvall trumpet, Hans Dyvik trumpet, Urban Wiborg trombone and last but not least Wojtek Goral on saxophone. Wojtek also did the sax solo on Flying.

The Music:

CROSSFADE stands for TRANSITION. Transition through all the inspiration and heritage we carry and have gathered through the years. You can hear influences from the, 60´s, 70´s, 80´s up till modern days transform into the sound of CROSSFADE.

Of course we lean toward the music one might call West Coast/AOR but we have tried to take it a bit further. You can hear vocal arrangement sounds from the 60´s as well as the 70´s, 80´s and with a production that transforms it into the 21 century. We tried to bring a mix of songs that crossfades/transforms into something new and fresh and not like a remix of something previously done.

The fans of Toto, Foster, Sting, Graydon, Pages, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Don Henley and Mr Mister will hopefully find their appetite satisfied here.

The intricate, overdubbed vocals are fantastic, and the guitar solos are awesome! First rate recording that's in my player constantly.

  • To all westcoast fans

It's really simple. If you are longing for records, that sounds like Pages, Toto (old days), Michael McDonald, Robbie Dupree, Kenny Loggins etc. This is just the album to get. Although it's from Sweden - no problem. I think swedish musicians are must more loyal to the real sound - the westcoast sound. The don't need to find a new sound, in an act of panic og because they think they have to. This is just the sound you want, the songs you like, and played just the way is was supposed to. This is real west coast stuff. And it's good. Thank you Crossfade. You fill in a big hole, left by all the old westcoast band, that just doesn't make 'em like they used to..

  • BUY THIS CD !!

This has to be one of the best West Coast CD's I have ever heard ! I was a bit hesitant at first when it came to buying it but I trusted the reviews on the site and MAN I'M GLAD THAT I DID!! The entire album is fantastic from start to finish. Great harmonies throughout -- reminiscent of Little River Band at times, Chicago at others, Toto, and Michael McDonald too. Do yourself a favor and pick up this CD.

  • if you´re a fan of westcoast you´d better get this album because it´s so damn go
    author: Kaj

Crossfade from Sweden is not to be mixed with Crossfade from USA,this new Swedish constellation of a bunch of supermusicians plays pure westcoast in the Toto vein and it´s not the ordinary MTM release we´re used to see from that melodic rock label. I want to clarify something right here and right now,if you´re a fan of westcoast you´d better get this album on April 5th because it´s so damn good I´m getting goosebumps all over my body and I also know that people who are into this kinda music always looks at what musicians are playing so here they are:Goran Edman,(he´s got soul, power and an amazing feel so who could be more suitable to sing on this than Edman?!)-Vocals,Per Lindvall-Drums,(one of Sweden´s finest drummer in all categories)Sven Lindvall-Bass(brother to Per and the touring bassist with AHA),Richard Stenström-Keyboards(producer behind this wonderful album),Lars Hallbäck-Guitars(the main man behind Crossfade such as composer and producer). Ofcourse you need a brass section to make the sound complete and they are:Leif Lindvall - trumpet,Hans Dyvik - trumpet,Wojtek Goral - saxophone and Urban Wiborg - trombone. There are 3 things that is so important with westcoast releases and first it´s the production that´s gotta be first class big budget studio sounding and Crossfade has it!,secondly the performance has to be top notch with great vocals and a superb groove....and well, while listening to this 56 minute long record I´m 100% satisfied with what I´m getting-oh la la! 3rd and last thing is the level of the songwriting which should be just as good as if it were written by names like David Foster,Michael McDonald,Pages, Michael Landau,Bill Champlin and so on......let me tell you, when hearing songs like "Did you really","A deeper shade of love","You" and "The day the music died"-I can only say CROSSFADE does it just as good! HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE!!!!

  • Highly recommended
