Beats in the last three years chances are you’ve met Creature. He’s the persistent MC pitching a catalog as long as his dreds. The same blue-collar ethos that has made Creature a fixture on the NY scene is what guides his latest release, “Hustle To Be Free.” By combining wit with a keen insight, Creature injects just enough funny to hold listeners without diluting his message. This pattern is established on “Reckless Eyeballin”, where his MC skills are displayed (You just talkin/Sixteen years ago I could’ve been Yousef Hawkins) between bookend samples of Don Imus and Kramer losing their minds. Creature is also not afraid to switch up his style. The stripped down beat of “His Name Is” is vaguely Southern, as is the sing-song style he delivers his hook. My favorite track is “Love Yaself”. The beat is bananas and once again Creature gets his message out without being preachy. The second banger here to me was “Suck You Dry”, where a guitar driven beat enables Creature to tell his story of perseverance. So next time you see Creature grinding cop “Hustle To Be Free” and get motivated.
HUSTLE KING
author: HIPHOP LINGUISTICS"HUSTLE TO BE FREE" IS A EXECEPTIONAL INDEPENDENT Creature’s “Hustle To Be Free,” has become my early morning favorite – the album I throw in during my daily work grind. It during my daily work grind. It demonstrates a positive can-do attitude that urges the listener to hustle their way to freedom. I highly recommend picking up a copy of the album and the book. And stay on the grind homie – if there’s one thing you can learn from Creature, it’s that anything is possible if you put in a little hustle. Peace.
