Crazy Joe and the boys are BACK with their second ATOM release, the CD EP Sweatin' Bullets Over You, with the guitar prowess of Link Wray or Carl Perkins, the energy of Little Richard and a gentle nod to Buck Owens & Gene Vincent.

notes

The first Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws CD, Chopped, Slammed & Twangin' (2004), had a definate Rev. Horton Heat vibe. On Sweatin' Bulltes Over You, you'll hear more of a nod to the music of the late 1950's.

There's more instrumentation on Sweatin' and a fuller guitar sound. Joe's song writing has matured and expanded. And last but not least, you can tell Joe has been listening to lots of Little Richard and James Brown records (and watching too many Gilligan's Island reruns).

So you still have great playin' and singin' on Sweatin' Bullets Over You, but there's more diversity on the new CD. There is also some Buck Owens influence happening in the song Baby's Behind. Which we know what you are thinking, how do you cross Little Richard with Buck Owens? Purchase Sweatin' Bullets and you'll find that Joe pulls things off in top class form.

This guys sounds superb! This is high class! I saw him live together with Deke Dickerson. Together with deke, Joe is the best. Highly recommended !!!

  • Great CD

This is a great rockabilly CD - my only negative is that it is only five tracks! Leaves you wanting more...

  • top notch rockabilly guitarist

A fine rockabilly EP from a performer who has some humor and whimsy in his style. There's more than a hint of Maphis-style guitar flash here, too. I can't wait for a full length CD collaboration with his current employer Deke Dickerson.

  • Good stuff but too short

Their first album was excellent, and this one rates right up there equal to the first, except the number of tracks. Just when I'm really getting into the sound, the disc is over. Thats a let down considering the energy these guys put out. I hope to catch them live someday.

  • Buy it or... buy it !!!!!

If I could I'd give this cd 6 stars !!! Behind this look of Nasa engineer escaped from “The Right Stuff” hides one of the best new talent I’ve heard for years. “No prisonner!» seems to be Crazy Joe’s anthem on this EP as they open with two wild rockers that knock your socks off.with brilliant guitar work and screamin’ sax on “Yak Yak Yak” (Larry Williams and Little Richard are not far). “Electric Ukulele” Rag is actuallythe classic “Steel Guitar Rag” but think about it played by Joe Maphis with the help of Les Paul and a bit of Tiny Moore and you’ll have an idea of the talent of this young (but crazy) guy. It’s time to solw down a bit and the Bakersfield styled “Baby’s behind” is perfect for that. Once again great musical skill and funny lyrics. This fine but short EP ends with “Sweatin’ Bullets Over You” a nice slow song reminiscent of “Trying To Get To You”. Now think about it : guitar wizard, eclectism, funny lyrics… Didn’t you use this words for someone else before? Yes, Crazy Joe is made of the same stuff Deke Dickerson is : the right stuff of course !
