notes
The Crazy Horse singers originated in the late 1960s and consisted of singers and drummers from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota. Along their paths the drum experienced many trial and tribulations and most of these singers have passed on to the spirit world. It was through two of these original members, Leroy Looks Twice and Chris Eagle Hawk, that we have the present Crazy Horse Singers. Since 1986 the present day Crazy Horse has journeyed across the native lands. Most of them have transformed from passionate radical youths to conservative middle aged men with families to provide and care for. In this transition of life they have experienced many hardships but through prayer and subsequent understanding of cultural reality they are still here today to pass our ageless traditions. Their experiences in tumultuous times have taught them humility and understanding which anchor the necessary principles of their drum. Today they invision a future with happiness and a brighter dream that their "Wakan Esa" (Sacred Children) would not have to endure what most of their generation saw in their confusion to understand their place in a very complex and sophisticated modern civilization. The Crazy Horse Singers wish that their continuing quest for full and complete lives will give hope to their "Wanbli Aunkson" (Grey Eagles) that their words. dreams and teachings will be carried on past the seventh generation and into endless time of our hearts, souls and minds.

One of the best Pow Wow CDs ever
author: Smoking BearA genre of music long overlooked, Native American Music, is finally getting it's due. The first Native American Grammy Award went to a compilation of Pow Wow songs. This CD is one of the best pow wow cds ever put together. The mixing is perfect, with both drum and vocals in balance. The power and the beauty of a pow wow song is on display on this disc for anyone to hear.
Soulfully haunting
author: D JohnsonThe Crazy Horse Singers are featured on the Quiet Thunder cd's telling of the life of Crazy Horse. The haunting sound of their music touches the soul and awakens the senses and brings forth a way of life not to be forgotten or denied for all cultures to remember.

Having originated in the late 1960s, consisting of singers and drummers from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, the Crazy Horse singers have empowered and culminated their music from the hardships and challenges they have endured through the years. Their traditional Lakota singing and drumming surges with visceral, tangible emotion and stories, reflecting both the anguish and the strength of these people and their ancestors. Their startling voices continue to throw back veils of illusion and ignorance, calling for the truth of history and the present to be seen more clearly and honestly. It is a remarkable, chilling album that is stirring and even a bit unsettling in this important way- asking that we take another look at our collective, shared past and understand our brothers and sisters whose future is also our own.
Great
author: Brian EagleHeartIt is good to hear more traditional music versus the pow wow music being played today. Great job Crazyhorse, aho. BSE
Divinely-inspired musical triumph.
author: renegadelakotaThe Crazy Horse Singers have issued another masterpiece. 1876 features songs handed down from previous incarnations of the group and new originals. The title track is a victory march inspired by Custer's spanking at Little BigHorn. The entire album is a tribute to the pride, power, and beauty of the Lakota people. Mitakuye oyasin.
