notes
'On The Lam Again' features TWELVE songs, well over an hour of defiantly original rock n' roll. Want detuned, 7-string thrash and tonsil-tearing incoherent screaming? Look elsewhere. These guys can write, they can sing, and they can play. And holy crap, they can even read music!
This record has something for everyone -
...from the radio-ready catchy hook of 'Another Day'
...to the spooky-surfy 'Destiny'
...to the rocking balls-to-the-wall 'Round and Round'
...to the haunting ballad 'Lost My Love Again'
...to the jazz-funk jam 'Widow's Walk'...
this CD showcases a dizzying array of modern melodic styles.
Seasoned frontman DAN KIDNEY, formerly of the legendary NYC club band 'Dan Kidney & The Pulsations', lends his songwriting talents and huge voice to this diverse, vastly entertaining album. And his keyboard virtuosity is also apparent; Dan goes from Jerry Lee Lewis/roadhouse to Doors/Farfisa at the drop of a cigarette butt. ('Destiny' actually features a 60s vintage Farfisa!) Dan is also an accomplished engineer/producer, and personally recorded and mixed this album.
The heavy-duty backline of classically-trained JIM LUCYK on bass and hero-firefighter/percussionist DOUG 'Bam Bam' BURNS keeps it real, regardless of tempo. Guitarist TOM WOODS, unabashed devotee of SRV-style blues, wails on his Strat throughout.
Parallel lives make for a very cohesive band - the Crash Daddies live within a couple of blocks of each other in the Mighty Metropolis of Pompton Lakes, NJ (pop. 10,640). They hang out together. The 9 band kids go to school together and play with each other. Their wives are friends. Sometimes this family togetherness thing comes out in the music; one example is the parent-oriented tune 'In My House', which spells out precisely 'what you're NOT gonna do in my house, kid!'
This first studio effort is just one side of the Crash Daddies. As their fans will tell you, they are first and foremost a great live band, playing everything from clubs in NYC's East Village to Celtic New Year's Eve at Akron, Ohio's famous Highland Theatre in Nov. 2002 (another show coming Nov 1, 2003).
And please, you just gotta see their website (click link on left); here you will see the true personality and humor the Crash Daddies are famous for (at least locally!) If you don't laugh your ass off on the FANS page, well...
