Jennifer Corday is an polished singer and songwriter. She has a unique style and the songs on this package are truly fun to listen to. As original as she is slick, she glides easily between different musical landscapes with ease, wit, and gumption. A pop-rock powerhouse!

  • A dramatic and powerful new approach of love and heartache, delivered in a voice
    author: Sarah Little

Corday’s new album “Superhero” takes a dramatic and powerful new approach in ten bold and honest songs of love and heartache, delivered in a voice of sweet desperation. Long Beach singer/songwriter Jennifer Corday posits themes of power and saving love, devastating insecurity, and playful contemplation without losing her rhythm. With richly layered and varied instrumentation framing sharply accurate lyrics, she expresses old familiar feelings in striking new ways. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the dark and mesmerizing “Parade of Strangers”— an immediately powerful track that draws from sweet sixties girl group sounds to Floydian deep-space rock. The guitars speak eloquently and powerfully—the feeling is immediately felt. Lyrics that speak of past loves haunting a current relationship hit too close to home. It is impossible to ignore. Corday’s songwriting is richly enhanced by her willingness to share the spotlight with other, nontraditional sounds, such as cellos, horns, celeste, and electric sitar. Beautifully arranged, they all add a unique strength to the songs that would otherwise not be there. "Starfish” is another standout track—a sweet and beautiful love song without a hint of syrup. The song is melancholy with a triumphant edge—an empathetic and encouraging anthem for some poor, beautiful creature. This transcendent pop song benefits—as does the entire record—from sharp lead guitar work and a propulsive, dynamic rhythm section. Corday’s infectious and inviting voice brings the tale to life. The super-swinging title track is sung by a woman seeking the saving grace of a superhero, but it is clear from these ten tracks that the real superhero—however insecure or fickle she may sometimes appear—is Corday. Her power is revealed first in solid songwriting, and consummated in the form of a pop record masterpiece. The sonic adventures on “Superhero” are worthy of none less than a superhero.
