(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Tracy offers incredible depth and soul as a vocalist and songwriter and practically explodes with energy and sensuality on stage, manhandling her stratocaster with an intensity and abandon most players can only hint at.

notes

Close your eyes. Take my hand. I'm going to walk you into this nightclub and I want you to tell me what you hear.

No, you're still alive, that's not an angel singing with Freddie King accompanying on guitar.

No it's the same person strangling the guitar now, eliciting howls of feedback and crunching growls from an ancient battered Strat-

Nope, the same band, that churchy R&B is just part of the package...

OK, open your eyes. Yep all that music is coming from the one and only Tracy Conover...

The daughter of a United Airlines pilot and a stay-at-home mother, Tracy was a fearless tomboy who loved fishing, swimming, skating on the lake where she grew up and riding the most unruly horses the neighboring farms could offer up. Though Miss Tracy started playing guitar at age 14, she was singing and writing songs from her earliest memories. Restless and rebellious in high school, she graduated early and moved to Lake Tahoe at 17 to attend Sierra Nevada College. She majored in music (earning a Bachelor's degree) and took classes in ice-camping and wilderness survival. During this time Tracy played acoustic gigs, shoveled snow and cut firewood to pay the bills. In 1987, Tracy felt the call of Texas and she moved to Denton to study Voice, Jazz, and Classical Guitar at North Texas State University (now University of North Texas). "That was my first exposure to Jazz and Blues" says Tracy, "and I spent every waking moment transcribing Hendrix, (Stevie Ray) Vaughan, Freddie, BB, and Albert King, T-Bone Walker, (Albert) Collins, and Magic Sam." In 1991 she moved to Austin, and for the next few years gigged almost nightly on 6th Street fronting her own band and learning from the many great players who live there. In 1994 she met Clint Eastwood, who was in town filming "A Perfect World" with Kevin Costner. Eastwood came to every one of Tracy's shows while in Austin, even putting her in his movie (the scene was unfortunately cut).

Miss Conover is a veteran, road tested, world-traveled performer. She offers incredible depth and soul as a vocalist and songwriter and practically explodes with energy and sensuality on stage, manhandling her Stratocaster with an intensity and abandon most players can only hint at. Tracy has played with Albert Collins, toured Sweden, France and Japan with Earl King, recorded in 1991 and again in 2000 with Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon (Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Double Trouble") and opened shows for the likes of Dick Dale, BB King, Buddy Guy, Ted Nugent, Charlie Daniels and the Marshall Tucker Band to name a few.

Tracy's latest CD "Live at the Cactus Moon" was recorded April 2004 in Humble Texas, and will be available at all her live shows, select retail stores and through CDBaby.com. The new album showcases Miss Conover's original music, featuring a blend of silky R&B style songs, psychedelic guitar-driven instrumentals and some raucous Texas-Style Rockin" Blues. Folks, this is high-voltage entertainment that is NOT to be missed! Come out and see this sultry wild thang work her guitar magic

I caught Tracy on TV at the Austin City Hall front steps. I was mesmerized unable to switch the channel. She rocks so hard and the things she can do with a guitar! I ordered her CD immediately and am loving it. I hope I get to see her in person soon.

  • Awesome! Nice surprise!

I'm so surprised that I haven't heard of Tracy before running across a review of her latest CD on the Blues Bytes site. I mean, a strong female Blues singer who is also a good guitarist, and not to mention, very attractive! I tend to shy away from the more hard rock style Blues artists, but something in that Texas water must make a difference, because Tracy has a very appealing sound. This live CD has a nice mix of slow and fast, high energy and soulful relaxing tunes. You can mark up another CD sale...

  • VERY BIG.TALENT AND ENERGY

I didn't know Tracy Conover before listening to the blues women compilation from ruff records. She deserves to go a step ahead and to be able to tour all over the world. The version of "Goin'Down" is really among the best blues live performance for the last 30 years.

I'd heard a lot of good things about Tracy and was not disappointed with the CD. The songs were good and her backup band is top notch also. I'm looking forward to hearing more from this talented band!

  • One of my favourite guitar players!
    author: ansgar leuthner

This is Tracy "live" - intensive, hard rocking, powerful but subtile guitar playing and between the hard stuff some gentle ballads with wonderful singing. You can feel the sweat, the heat - whatever you want. Highlight is "Goin' down" and its really surprising that Tracy's doing that "must-be-exercise" of any blues-guitarist in a different way, with slightly funky style. Just listen to this record and play it VERY loud - satisfaction guaranteed!

  • Supercharged & soulful Texas Stratocaster blues.... And a whole lot MORE!!
    author: Jerry Clayworth

This amazing self-produced/released disc captures Miss Tracy Conover in her best element: Live (onstage in Humble, TX)! The opening cut "Addiction" is a Conover-penned insprational epic about heart & spirituality being stronger than a needle or a bottle. "Stopping For Nothing" & "Rainforest" are instrumentals co-written by Tracy & longtime rhythm section Roger Tausz & Charlie Fountain. In the first, a driving funk-fueled beat is the perfect "solid ground" for Tracy's progressive (nearly psychedelic) journey to take flight (Imagine the bluesy side of Hendrix with a Bevis Frond sensability). The appropriately titled "Rainforest" is a flowing guitar excursion, almost organic in it's purity. Conover's cover of "Goin' Down" has the kind of butt-rockin' roadhouse strut to call up the spirit of the ol' Texas Cannonball himself! And my favorite track on the CD (okay, 1 of my 9 favorites) is "I Wanna Be An Angel", a beautiful tune written by Tracy some 10+ years ago. As she sings of seeking life's greater rewards & a higher consciousness, the full range of Tracy's vocals is clear to see.... A simmering warmth gives-way to sailing Southern soulfulness, with the kind of texture & emotion that Lydia Pense fans can surely appreciate! Saying so much about Miss Conover's musicianship & vision, I would go so far as to call "...Angel" her "Life By The Drop"! Overall, a marvelous & multi-faceted CD by a truly gifted Texan!

  • Great CD, Amazing guitarist composer and singer!
