notes
Roel Trevino whom I had started Conjunto with a year before owned a small club in Litlle Village called The Jacaranda. He had brought up the idea of having Conjunto perform there. Leaving Downtown I navigated south to check out the club. When I hit 26th street the lights and signs lit up the evening sky. The Jacaranda was in the midst of this.
The club was cozy and intimate, a great setting for live music we decided to make a stand.. Roel threw up some lights, we bought a P.A. and our friend Ruben, a good bass player and master carpenter built a stage. We started playing every Friday night and our friends and the community supported us. Then and now it seems like every time we play there are magical moments and intimate encounters with people who stop by and musicians who sit in.
In my opinion, the band is comprised of some of the finest musicians in the city, But, more importantly we all love to play this music and we are enjoying ourselves. In addition to his magnificent Conga playing Roel Trevino has influenced the direction of Conjunto by giving us a base of operation and no matter where we may play I have a feeling The Jacaranda will always be home to us.
As on many other nights we had a great crowd on the evenings of these recordings. We dedicate this album to all of you who come out and inspire us to reach for something higher.

never get tired
author: señora zepedaThis CD has been in the stereo since the day I got it. There is so much flavor and variety, I never get tired of hearing it.
eye and ear opener
author: jose garciaUntil now,my bag has been listening to "old cuban" music, guarachas, mambos, boleros with an occasional foray into jazz. Los muchachos del "Conjunto " have cut a real boss disco. They have included all the traditional beats and instrumental combos ( I suspect many of them had classical training). But their melding of jazz riffs with "classical" cuban rythms and modern chords makes this a worthwhile sound. It has made me appreciate what jazz can be like. I will probably wear the CD out within a year and will need to buy another.
