notes

Christine Collister grew up on the tiny Isle of Man and enjoyed a childhood in rugged and free landscape. Born with an adventurous nature, she also began to explore her sense of spirituality, characteristics which inform the content of her latest songs.

Christine's professional recording career began in the UK in the mid 1980s. She first came to national attention singing the theme tune to the cult hit BBC TV series, 'The Life and Loves of A She Devil'. Following a fruitful association with THE RICHARD THOMPSON BAND, Christine also featured on albums by LOUDON WAINWRIGHT and BERT JANSCH and enjoyed a period of acclaim in a seven year partnership with CLIVE GREGSON, as half of the legendary duo Gregson & Collister. Christine's subsequent endeavours have enabled her to develop new and liberating musical partnerships, including those with BARB JUNGR and with female folk super group, DAPHNE'S FLIGHT.

However, it was probably her solo albums, 'The Dark Gift of Time' and 'Blue Aconite' which began to establish Christine as an artist of stature and substance, both at home and abroad during the past 18 months, Christine's career has once again evolved and after two successful solo tours and a performance at THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL, she has also been very warmly received by audiences of diverse artists including legendary country performer, DON WILLIAMS and blues guitar maestro ERIC BIBB.

'HOME' is the latest album to be released on Stereoscout Records and captures Christine at her best - in live performance. The songs were recorded at various venues
over the past 12 months and the CD's appeal is enhanced by exclusive video footage, gallery and interviews, along with never before released audio clips. HOME is a pre-cursor to a DVD, to be released early 2004, featuring full length interviews with Christine alongwith footage of gigs and appearances from the last 20years of her career. Keep an eye on her site for more info over the coming months.

  • Come to the U.S., Christine!
    author: BW

Until and unless Christine comes to perform in the U.S. again, I can at least play this delightful CD. Listening to it, I feel I'm in a small club, sitting near the stage, enjoying her extraordinary voice and her lovely and relaxed stage presence. I'm especially pleased to have such a wonderful rendition of "Warm Love Gone Cold."

  • amazing vocals, songs and humour all in one CD
    author: Larry Pierre

Christine sounds fantastic on guitar and voice. She is a great interpreter of other people's songs and is also a gited song writer in her own right. The live recording gives us the public an insight to her brilliant performances and her fantastic sense of humour comes out nicely in the live recording. Highly recommended.

  • One of the Best Vocalists around
    author: Dan Davilla

Christine Collister has been preforming for a long time with Richard Thompson, Barb Jungr, Helen Watson, Chris While, Julie Matthews and Clive Gregson. Home is a great album to introduce yourself to one of the Best Vocalists around. Christine has matured as not only a great singer but also a fabulous songwriter as well. This cd introduces you to some of the highlights throughout her career in a very acoustic setting which makes her Vocal qualities stand out. If you love Great Vocalists give her a listen -- you won't be disappointed.

  • A perfect snapshot of one of our greatest vocal talents.

Whether you are already a fan, or a Collister virgin, HOME is a perfect snapshot of the live work of this brilliant singer songwriter. Like all great artists she commands both the stage and the songs she sings. The world class voice, the warmth, charm and humour that underpin her personality are all captured perfectly on this live recording, and as a celebration of her 20 year career, as a taster for the forthcoming dvd or simply as another fabulous Collister recording, this album is a winner.

  • Christine Collister - Home - sublime recording
    author: Phil Chappell

Whenever I manage to persuade someone along to see Christine Collister live, they always become instant fans and are always astonished as to why she isn't a massive star. Well, if you haven't seen her live, then this is the next best thing -a live recording, excellently mastered, just Christine and guitar and some between-song banter. She chooses an eclectic mix of songs to perform as well as her own compositions and she also finds time to reflect on her days performing as part of the Gregson/Collister duo, performing here 'It's All Just Talk'. In the U.K. she is known for singing the theme to the BBC production of 'Lives and Loves of a She Devil', a song called 'Warm Love Gone Cold' and that too is given the live treatment. Well worth buying for the music alone , the CD is enhanced by a beautiful video for the Don McLean song 'Vincent', performed with a string quartet, as well as a taster of a forthcoming DVD. A great CD as an introduction to Ms Collister but also a must-have for confirmed fans too.

  • The only thing better than this cd, is to see Christine live
    author: Alan Place

This is probably the best of Christine's recent work, the chatting in between songs gives the whole disca homely, loving feeling. Her voice only improves the more you listen, 'Vincent' is sung so beautifully, it makes you want to cry for him. Yet, the lady can belt 'em', ' Kicking in my stalls' shows the spirit in her soul. If you buy a cd GET THIS ONE

How do you categorise Christine Collister's music? Folk Blues? Folk Jazz? Singer-Songwriter? Acoustic? All these and more. Combining her own songs with an eclectic choice of other people's songs, this live performance shows what a fantastic singer this lady is. I can say no more than BUY IT. You will not be disappointed.

  • An exceptional live album
    author: Richard Jesty

This is an album I've played again and again and I never cease to marvel at this woman's voice. I could never get my ears arouind Tom Waits voice but he sure writes great songs and the emotion that Christine puts in to Tom's Broken Bicycles just leaps out of the stereo. And I wonder what divine force causes a woman with just an acoustic guitar to choose to sing the U2 song I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For? Nowhere near an obvious choice but it works and it sends shivers up my back every time I hear that shouted ending. U2 just faded it to nothing on the Joshua Tree. Christine brings it to a stunning close. Her own compositions show she is no slouch when it comes to writing songs as well and may surprise people who just know her from the past as a great voice alongside more established writers like Richard Thompson and Clive Gregson. Fleeting visual snapshots of her singing with both these men are included in the CD-Rom section of the disk and hopefully we'll see more when the promised DVD appears. I always thought Don McLeans Vincent was a bit of a nothing song but in Christine's hands it becomes gold dust. Of the two versions on this disk (or three, if you include the video!) the one with the string quartet just shines like a diamond. Here in the UK Eva Cassidy became a household name partly as a result of a video shown on the BBC. Take note BBC! We have in our own midst a singer who is infinately better than Eva, and thankfully very much alive. SHow Christine's video of Vincent on the television and watch her soar!!

  • A wonderful recording of Christine Collister in concert
    author: Susan James

This album shows perfectly what a fabulous singer Christine Collister is. Reflecting her current live show, it's one woman with a guitar and a gorgeous voice. Some of Christine's between-song chats are included which show her bubbly sense of fun and make this recording even more like the live Collister experience. Bookending the show are two a-capella songs, arguably showing her voice off to best effect, though there are many other highlights. As well as an intelligent and sometimes surprising choice of other people's songs (e.g from Tom Waits, Billy Holiday, Christine McVie and U2!) she writes a mean song herself. One of these, Waiting For My Prayer shows off her powerful but controlled voice perfectly. How she can hold a note so long is a mystery and frankly, almost unfeasible! And Messrs Olney, Lanois and Emmylou Harris could never have expected Deeper Well to sound so good with just a tambourine accompaniment! An unlisted extra studio version of Don McLean's Vincent at the end of the recording is a welcome addition. With a string quartet backing her, Christine makes an already lovely song quite sublime. Finally, the CD-ROM enhanced portion of the disc gives us a video of said recording of Vincent and an eight minute foretaste of a promised full-length DVD celebrating her career so far, containing some home movies and some intriguing snippets from the archives. All in all: an excellent package from a fantastic singer.
