If you like great blues guitar playing, soulful singing AND cool songwriting, then this album is for you. Special guest Buddy Guy's bro Phil featured on several songs.

Here are excerpts from a recent review (January 2003, Rhythm, Art and Groove):

"Colin John is a bona fide triple threat. His guitar playing is freewheeling and intense but firmly grounded in the blues idiom. His singing is full-bodied and soulful. Finally, his songwriting skills are complex and mature. He is such a good guitarist that his playing skills alone make his music worth a listen.

But this guy can sing, too. John delivers his vocals with a passion and intensity hardly matched by most and doubtlessly exceeded by few. Like any good singer, he effortlessly conveys a full range of feeling- from humor to gravitas- making each song a different emotional experience.

And Speaking of songs, Colin John pulls another trick from his mojo bag-some of the most original songs you'll ever hear a bluesman perform. John goes far beyond the expected twelve bar format of traditional blues, blending r & b, funk, jazz, pop and blues into a genre-defying mix that consistently satisfies. Contrary to expectations, the music does not suffer from John's chameleon-like songwriting-if anything the variety reinforces the maturity and complexity of his work.

Anyone who goes to a Colin John gig is in for a great time. I watched these guys play and they are a smoking live act. The band includes Steve Calabria on bass, Chris Queen, organ and Scott Turner, drums. For blues fans and fans of good music, I strongly suggest you check out Colin John and his band. You won't be disappointed."

  • Awesome funky blues rock!
    author: Susie Jackson

Anyone who likes hard edged funky blues rock will love this disc. I bought it at a show recently and when I listened to it in the car on the way home, it was just as good as their live show. Colin is one of the best guitarists in this genre and I would compare his chops and tone on this cd to other players like Luther Dickinson, Chris Duarte and Warren Haynes. The songwriting is good stuff too-some of the lyrics are kinda naughty, but hey, it's the blues! Highly recommended!

  • Colin Said I Would Enjoy It
    author: Dave Bennett Wigan England

After listening to Colin for around ten years off and on,I would say this is the best album so far from one the worlds great blues players. I got it from him signed in Cork and was not disappointed.I think track 9 Undercover is fantastic.

  • Highly Recommended!

I decided to buy this cd based on listening to the samples on this site, and I am quite pleased with this purchase. I'll be looking for this band when they make it to the Bay Area. Johns is a competent guitarist who plays tasteful, understated solos throughout. His singing is soulful and unaffected. The arrangements are tight, and the material is the usual blues fare: stories of hard times, relationships gone bad, and hard-drinkin' women. The highlight is the cool rendition of Red Rooster--Special Guest Phil Guy makes it ROCK! Bottom line: Pick up this CD and support this band!

  • Awesome blues with special guest Phil Guy
    author: dennis murphy

i heard a track on my local public radio blues show. not sure wich one, but i knew it was phil guy on lead vocals. then the dj said it was the colin john band. i'm so glad i did the research to find this disc. it's most excellent. fun rockin, chicago style blues. also has a modern twist to it. check it out, i bought it here from cd baby. so i spent more than i ususally do on a disc, but let me tell you...IT'S WORTH IT!!

  • Great funky blues, smoking guitar, nice singing!
    author: Steve Moody

I heard about these guys through a friend, so I listened to the songs on the cdbaby site. Great funky blues with smoking guitar; not your same old blues, very exciting stuff. The singer(Colin John)has a very good voice and his songwriting is excellent too. Phil Guy is on a few tracks and he smokes as well. I highly recommend this to fans of this music.
