  • Buy it!

About 6 months ago, I heard "The Hand that Gives the Rose," and I couldn't forget it. Finally found out who it was, bought the CD, and now I'm giving the CD out as presents to all my stressed-out college student friends. Whalen's beautiful work is soothing, genuine, and a reminder of all the good things in life.

  • Wonderful

It's difficult to pick a favorite from this CD but I guess I'd say it's the title song, Gee Baby, that roped me in. All the songs are wonderful. Using sophisticated lyrics and melodies, Coles doesn't simply create music but rather drags one willingly into an emotional environment with her amazing voice. Hopefully there will be another album soon.

Being a "simple music" lover, I could not pass by Coles Whalen "Gee Baby" without giving it a full preview. Not many LP’s I have listened at cdbaby (and I count THOUSANDS already!!) have come close to this pure gem. Like I always say: there are many people out there capable of making music, but a FEW can achieve a TRUE masterpiece. I am addicted! Totally! "Gee Baby" delivers wonderfully played guitar, very catchy lyrics, and a voice to match! This combination gives me bags of listening pleasure, over and over again. Well, those who search eventually end up finding. I’m glad I did. Whalen will stay close to my ears and heart. All the best! Marco.

This cd grabs you and reels you in. Once you start listening you can't turn it off. It's one of those must have cd's. Coles is really going places with her beautiful voice, poignant lyrics, and stand out guitar/piano playing. She reaally is a gem. Stand out tracks are: Turn Away, Come Back For More, Sevens, and Pretty Kids. The other songs are gorgeous as well. Don't hesitate to buy this cd. :) RUN, don't WALK to her shows. She is truly a pleasure to see in concert.

It settles down the mind when listening to the tune of Coles Whalen. It was delicate, the expression was rich, and I liked it very much.

It's true that these days, female singer/songwriters are a dime a dozen- and it's difficult to find one that really says something unsual with their music. But when you do find that artist who grabs you by the shirt collar, it's all the more satisfying. With that remarkably vulnerable and transparent voice trembling with determination and conviction, Coles Whalen has matched the popular appeal of female folk pop with the harmonic and emotional nuances of jazz. In a nutshell, she could easily be the next Norah Jones.
