CD Review—Cody Dodson
By Joe Baker
It’s always a nice compliment when I hear a
good fresh voice to country/western swing
music and I’m very pleased to introduce
Cody Dodson to the western arts. I had the
opportunity to meet and hear Cody perform
back in early March of this year and I was
equally impressed with both. Cody, being
from my old stomping grounds around
Jacksboro, Texas, where each man pulls his
own weight and Dodson is no different. His
self titled album is produced by the legendary Grammy award winner
Tommy Allsup along with some of the finest musicians known to man
in the North Central Texas area. Recorded at Eagle Audio Recording
Studio in Fort Worth, Texas, Cody did another legend in the western
swing world justice as my good friend, Academy of Western Artists
award winner, Curtis Potter offers his style as background vocals,
along with one of the most sought after piano players in the industry
today, Mr. Wayne Glasson, plus Johnny Cox on on steel, Allsup on
guitar, Dale Morris on fiddle, former Asleep At The Wheel Drummer
Chris York and Ronnie Ellis on bass guitar. I’d like to quote Cody as he
said "I am from Jacksboro, Texas and a big fan of traditional country
music". Dodson’s words could not be more true as he knows his roots
and his goal in the music industry, with no doubt. His selections and
arrangements spells it all out with some of Potter’s recordings such as
Somewhere In Texas and Twin Fiddles as well as some Ray Price
tunes like Sittin & Thinkin, Dodson has really nailed this album and will
receive tremendous radio airplay. To listen to a couple of song clips
and to purchase Cody’s CD, you can find it at
