notes
The brain-child of Australian born one-time Ken Russell associate Anne Booty (real name btw),
Coco Electrik have been rather busy since Tummy Touch Records head honcho Tim “Love” Lee stumbled across their now classic Your Love Is Gum track at the end of a long forgotten demo tape four years ago. Two further acclaimed singles followed on said imprint, taking in collaborations with Whitey and Tom Vek, before Anne decided to set up her own label, Oscillation Records a year ago. Single Apple Pie was the first fruit of this new venture, followed by debut album Army Behind The Sun (produced by Royal Appointment & Skylab) last year. Punctuated by her unique vocals and a heady mix of electronica, filthy funk and synth-pop sass, plus a wealth of praise from the likes of the NME, Vice (8/10), Popjustice, Mixmag, Tiga and Cut Copy, this album marks a coming of age for the group. 2007 was rounded off with a storming celebratory album launch at Camden’s legendary BE Presents night at the Proud Galleries.
Other activity has taken in a bizarre appearance on prime-time BBC1, curating a long running night for Vice magazine’s london based pub, djing at Cut Copy’s album launch, being picked by Audi to launch their TTRemastered campaign, collaborating with Acoustic Ladyland on their widely lauded Cuts & Lies single, picking up John Waters as a fan, as well as narrowly missing out on a certain Apple themed ad.
Coco Electrik are currently recording their second album.
