Coat Cooke is a Vancouver based composer/improviser and co-Artistic Director of the New Orchestra Workshop. In 1987 he founded Canada's leading large improvising ensemble, the NOW Orchestra. He is currently the Artistic Director of this group, which has four CD releases.
Coat has worked with dance for more than 15 years. He has composed for set choreography but the bulk of his work has been with improvising dancers. He has had the opportunity to work with artists Barry Guy, George Lewis, Wayne Wadada Leo Smith, Butch Morris, Nancy Stark-Smith, Chris Aiken and Ray Chung.
