The ghosts of unjustices and undone revolutions are all around us waiting for us to sing and be brave and change things.

notes

Coal Beautiere is the creative endeavor of one Adrienne Spring Beatty and Arthur Harold Echternacht. The duo formed in summer of 2006 after Adrienne wished to add to her solo piano songs the adornment of glockenspiel and bass, chord organ and percussion. Since then, Art's critical taste in minor chord heaven and his encouragement of true animated expression while playing live has helped Coal Beautiere unfold into it's newfound place where mystic and myth and Neverland meet. The songs are built upon themes of hope, revolution, and true love, as well as an aspiration towards the mystical and the childlike. During live (and recorded) performances, Adrienne has garnished a few of her songs with her tap shoes as well, whilst enjoying the ever-challenge of multi-tasking on stage. Their haunted melodies had proven frustratingly difficult to put into a genre, until "post-goth folk" was finally settled upon. Think The Neverending Story theme songs mixed with Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell's curiosity for emotion.

  • Magic
    author: Helen June

Coal Beautiere's music is enchanting. If I described their music in images, I would tell you to think Fairytales, The Animals of Farthing Wood, Watership Down and The Secret Garden. This CD is so rich with messages of hope, love, compassion and a sense of childhood magic and innocence. I am in love with this band and I believe I would have been more than happy to pay AUS $25-30 if I had known what a treasure this CD would've been to me. Their lyrics are amazingly poetic and beautiful. Just beautiful.
