notes

Charla Michelle Hines was born August 26, 1984 in Mt. Pleasant Texas. She began singing at the age of five in church. Growing up she was more into sports than singing. She started gymnastics in the second grade and grew out of it around the end of seventh grade.By that time she played basketball, ran cross country, and track (throughout her high school years as well). As she grew older, she continued to sing in church as well as school talent shows. She was involved in almost every organization in high school including: Beta Club, National Honor Society, FFA and Youth for Christ (just to name a few). She graduated from Rivercrest High School in 2002 in the top ten of her class. When she started college, she honestly believed that she had everything figured out. She thought that she was going to major and graduate with a degree in psychology. Being in college made her reexamine herself (several times) and what she wanted out of life. She jumped back and forth trying to choose a field that she was comfortable in, but nothing ever seemed to fit. She realize that it was time to take a break from what she was doing, so that she could grasp what she needed to do in life, career wise. Out of the midst of her confusion, her singing career began to take shape.
She never wanted to be a singer, because she didn't think that an opportunity for that would come around her home town of Fulbright, Texas. However she read in the classifieds of a newspaper that singers, gospel and country, were wanted to come and audition. She didn't think to much of it at the time, but her Mother said that "you never know what could happen" She auditioned with a version of "Jesus Loves Me" the first time, and for the final audition she sang "When You Say Nothing At All" and "I Swear " . A couple of weeks later, she received a letter from the organization (Fowler All Night Sing ) that she had made it to the finals in Nashville, which was to be held November 2004. In Nashville she sang "What I Really Meant To Say". The song was video taped and broadcasted over the internet. She received enough votes to make it to the grand finals.

It was in Nashville that she met Steve and Gail Haggard as well as Randal Merryman of Wild Oats Records. Gail and Steve reviewed her video that was previously recorded, and then talked to Charla's parents and herself about their label. At the end of their conversation they agreed they would work with her in 2005. Things began moving pretty fast. She started receiving songs from Wild Oats Records in January. She had to choose ten songs out of approximately one hundred and twenty five songs. Charla began recording on February 7th. It was great, but tiring experience. She finished on February 19th, 2005 and had her first photo shoot on February 20th. Charla says, "What happens next is beyond me.." Charla has learned from this process that nothing is impossible. She never dreamed that she would be in this situation. Her story proves that God works in mysterious ways. She thought that the door was closing for her, but now she sees that God was only opening several more.

"In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:6
